So, if you travel to Cairo or Las Vegas during late autumn, winter or early spring, then you will find Las Vegas or Cairo as great cities, whereas Madrid won't be a heart warming city anymore, but a gloomy cold city.
I only have my visit to Central Paris ten years ago as a reference point, but it does seem to have declined in terms of cleanliness and approachability since then. Taking the Eurostar from Gare du Nord to London St Pancras is like comparing night to day in terms of infrastructure and cleanliness.
Gare du Nord is a huge station with 700,000 commuters per day (the busiest in Europe), while St Pancreas has been completely closed and rebuilt for the Eurostar.
You can't compare both railway terminals, Paris can't manage to close Gare du Nord for heavy reconstruction work unlike St Pancreas which was virtually abandoned 15 years ago.

Exactly; the British have been able to rebuid entirely that derelict station; the French are not able to do it with gare du nord although 700 000 commuters endure daily misery there. Far from mitigating it, the fact that it is a big hub aggravates the case.
Pro Madrid Joy ,sunlight,night Fiesta,security,less migrants,less guetos.etc
Pro Paris more tourism,Louvre,more people,etc
I do not understand Paris and wins if the comments are that Madrid is more vibrant,
Perhaps the explanation is that many vote to Paris by his legend whitout thinking wat it means vibrant.
The fact that 10 votes went to Madrid (let's not forget also the 3 undecided) and only 15 to Paris, which is a much bigger and ancient city, proves to what extent Madrid's reputation has increased, and Paris decreased in the last decades.
Paris is a wonderful city inward shows, theaters ,shops museums, etc
While on a rainy,dark,depressing ,context.
Madrid has also magnificent museums theaters but where is vibrant is that Madrid is a city overturned in the street ,full of sun ,people on the street whith thousands of bars whith food and drink whith the invention of
the skewers ,tapas whith crouds wandering from bar to bar.and outdoor terraces fullof people.
And the night of Madrid is vibrant as the best of Europe. Is very lively and exciting
