I am a female...61.....my stamina has been altered with a diagnosis of arthritus in the neck on one side. I get worn out quicker...I no longer hit the treadmill like I used to because I feel more unsteady so I walk at a brisk rate with both feet on the ground. I gave up riding my mountain bike because swinging my leg over the high bar no longer felt safe to do. I bought a fat tire, dropped bar with wide handlebars for my treks these days. Walking is my go-to excercise with some stretching. 60 is NOT THE NEW 50. Workout at your tolerance and comfort. Whatever your activity preference. We have to adjust to what our bodies are telling us. Did I mention my occasional vertigo? Grrrrrrrr

Water aerobics and walking and I'm content with the results.

I agree.....just don't over do it!

If something starts to hurt, you're feeling the pain..stop.

I'm not 60 yet, but I do walk up and down hills for a couple miles, the kind of hills that leave you breathless and you'd have to downshift in a manual transmission car, and kind of wishing you weren't doing it ;D 3X a week.

My theory is, as you age, just keep moving. As you get weaker, get down on the floor and up from that and down on the floor and up from that 10X a day so you can still do it in your 80's.

What you don't use, you lose.

Good going, your doing the best you can and adjust accordingly but the bottom line is that you don’t give up.

We all need to focus on what we can do and pay little attention to or dwell on what we use to do in the past.

Good post, hopefully others will follow your advice!

Go to your doctor, just to make sure you are not dead yet. Then get a second opinion. Tell the doctor you plan to hit the gym 5-8 times a week and do strenuous cardio and weight training. If you have not been doing a lot of exercise then you have to very slowly increase your intensity and duration. Patience.

I do a Silver Sneakers class at our community recreation center 3 times a week. Low impact and you use a chair, if you need stability. We have 4 men in this group. Oldest females are in their late 80's. I also do recumbent bike 2 times a week between the Sneakers class.
