I was just told that last week by my neighbor.
I hope he wasn't serious.

I hear ya love - it is really frustrating when you encounter these people, especially if it is on more than one occassion, because it really makes you think that it is the majority of people rather than the minority. Hopefully, people will start to hold themselves to a higher standard and conduct themselves accordingly. But I could be waiting along time for that one.

You know what guys, I am this way too - I think it is called being raised right, some people were dragged up by the nape of their necks in the woods. However, I think that if someone is doing something kind for you, it should be acknowledged by a simple thank you. I think that more and more it has become the norm to just accept rud behavior - huh uh - not me - I'm going to call your butt out on it. I had a man (I will just say that he was not american born) watch my son struggle to open the door to a dunkin donuts and then try to walk out of it before he could enter (he is 7 by the way). He was holding one cup of coffe and was on his blue toothe. Well, he must have lost his damn mind and I let him know that. I have to say my boys are no angels, but they are polite, respectul of others and have manners. They often open the door for elderly people, they also practice common sense (which is not so common anymore). If the man were holding 10 things ok, but still take the time to say thank you. No, he just proceeded to walk through without even looking at him. I thought that I was going to KILL him. I realize this may sound silly to some of you, but something about this made me irate. I really laid into him (I was one of those NYers your talking about disliking right now) about being courteous and just how rude he was and he kind of looked at me like I was crazy.

Is it just me or would you have been angry too. I know that if I saw a little child struggling to open the door that I would probably help him with opening the door and then tell him to go through. Is it just me?

Just to clarify - this man was able bodied and should have known better.

I can say to this that I'm a 3rd generation native and my daughter is a 4th generation. Family has been in the area since 1924.

See...some of us still do exist!

Unfortunately, I'm also counting the days until I can leave.

Why do Floridians dislike Northerners so much?
I don't dislike them. I just wish they'd shut up about how they did it up north.

To me, it seemed like there was more conflict between midwesterners and northeasterners in Florida, atleast where I lived (Ft. Myers and Oviedo). I heard many midwestern transplants complain about the northeastern transplants and vice versa. A Florida native had a say every once in a while too. But in most of southwestern and eastern Florida, native Floridians are few and in between. The majority of the people you encounter have midwestern or northeastern roots in those areas.

Also, many Floridians can trace their roots back to the northern states. I knew alot of my classmates in 6th grade who were born in the northern states but basically grew up in Florida.
