[quote=samjune2009;10054777]Subsidy, what it can mean...I will cover the name of the company and the individual involved so that it does not look as if I am attacking one particular person, but a situation.

"......, besides looking like Mr. Dithers on the Simpsons, has destroyed the lives of many people with his unethical hiring and laying off people. There was an actual club in ...... of former ......employees...... used to get money from the State for every new hire they had. So he crushed them through the mill and then layed them off with a box on the desk when they got back from lunch program. All while he collected awards from the State for creating so many new jobs."

In a magazine interview when he was asked what is his favorite book, he answered: "the bible" !
In the same interview when he was asked which virtue in humans he finds the most important, he answered: "honesty" !

Further research on this "old man" shows that at the time he was receiving money, he had already over $200 millions and had always been heavily involved in speculative real estate business. He has even written a book about real estate (!). He has not been short of money to be "helped" by Florida government financially.

If the money/tax breaks/land was given to startup companies to motivate them or to encourage other small/young (!) innovative companies to come to Florida, that would be a different story.

Sam,

I looked at his pictures. He definitely looks like "Mr. Burns" in the Simpsons.

Wikipedia's description of the character of Mr. Burns in Simpsons matches perfectly the greedy old IT guy who gets money from Florida to "fire" people:

" Mr. Burns embodies a number of characteristics about Corporate America, as he has an unquenchable desire to increase his own wealth and power.
His trademark expression is the word "Excellent", muttered slowly in a low, sinister voice while tenting his fingertips. He also frequently orders Smithers to "release the hounds", resulting in his vicious guard dogs attacking any intruders or enemies. Mr. Burns is Springfield's richest and most powerful citizen; within the show his current net worth is $996 million. He uses his power and wealth to do whatever he wants, usually without regard for consequences and without interference from the authorities."

So very true about this old IT guy in Florida too based on what I have read about it.

By the way, one of his vice presidents a year ago used to work in a construction company which wanted to quietly disappear after home owners found out that their homes were contaminated with Chinese dry walls. But owners got together and legally forced this company to take responsibility. Now, that construction company, even though bankrupt, has set aside a "fund" to reimburse Chinese dry wall home owners!

Corruption not only in the construction but also in the IT business and this time "subsidized" too.

Using Google search, created by Yale/Harvard/MIT graduates, I checked on this IT company which has been receiving subsidy from Florida to hire then fire.

While most of "The Simpsons" writers are Harvard graduates, this IT company in Florida, which has been receiving subsidy, has "top executives" holding only high school diplomas in their hand!

Why education does not matter to this IT company, because there is no R&D department. They are not creating new products. They only sale products of acquired companies. Where does the owner of this company get the money from? Probably real estate speculation as he has written a book on how to become rich through real estate speculation in Florida! Rich enough to buy many other software companies, but sill qualify to receive subsidy!!

That's ashamed! I think of all young, bright and creative companies who could use this kind of subsidy to survive.

Why did Florida government choose this IT company to give subsidy to?
Is this the way Florida wants to become an IT state.. helping land/house super rich speculators through tax funded subsidies?

Living in Florida, one learns quickly about economic irrationality and social injustice.
Ethics and economics should not been seen as two subjects but one.

“Economic irrationality and social injustice” ?

How can Florida government give subsidy to a 70 years old IT/housing speculator who has been in this business, as he has written himself, for over 40 years?

He buys companies rips out the heart of the companies, their products, and then lays off anybody in the acquired companies, cold bloodily. Company after company, he has laid off thousands and has destroyed future of many bright and young IT specialists who worked hard in developing products, which this old IT guy buys with his land/housing speculation money, gets subsidy, and then lays them off.

Just recently he has sold a piece of property for over $10 million.

In an interview he was asked who is his idle. As an IT guy one would expect of him to say Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. But he said his idle is “his best friend, Mr. X”.

Checking into Mr. X, I found out that he has a construction company, which has also used contaminated Chinese dry walls in one exclusive condominium buildings.

The same IT / housing speculator has said that his favorite book is “the Bible” and he admires “honesty” and he enjoys being received by his employees “warm heartedly”!!

I was reading what this "unique" old IT guy had written about becoming rich through real estate speculation. It is laughable.
He reminds me of "Forrest Gum", but a mean one.
