I'm lobbying for home made Cuban sandwiches. I think I've got things leaning my way at the moment. Happy Saturday all.

Supper Tonight: I have a 6+ pound, half pic nic (smoked pork sholder) to cook.....I dont think I have ever cooked one....the tips I have found say it can be oven baked with a glaze, or cooked in a little water....there are warnings about overcooking causing it to dry out. Has anyone any tips for me. I am planning to make brocoli with a cheese sauce (Velveta ) and potatoes to go with it. If you have any advise on the pic nic "ham", I would welcome them. I am inclined just to put it in dutch oven with a little water and an onion; but that sounds too bland or simple.

Elston, I cook mine in a dutch oven...cover with water, add 10 peppercorns, 5-6 of whole cloves and a couple bay leaf, bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer until tender...about 2-3 hours.

After that, I let it cool, place it in a roasting pan and cover with a glaze...apricot preserves work good, and bake at 375 for about a half hour.

I've always wanted to try the cola version, since seeing Nigella do it. Looks good, but quite rich...

Elston, I'm jealous, you have your meal planned. I have to decide among stuffed veal breast, sausage and perrers, a cheeseburger or pasta. I went to the store to pick up a few things and saw the stuffed veal, already cooked, and got 2 of them. That should make 4 meals since it's only me.

I always cook my hams with the coke! I have tried so many recipes and nothing compares to the coke method! I just stab some holes in it, pour come coke over it, wrap tightly in tinfoil and bake! sounds simple and it is.

Perfect every time!
