Right this minute I have in the oven a......drum roll please........huge chicken pot pie with HOMEMADE from scratch crust. I spent most of the afternoon today cooking the chicken, making my filling, and then making the crust. Hubby came upstairs while I was rolling it out and was transfixed - he never saw me do it before. Well, duh.....!!!!! OOOOOh, also green salad....
I know It's gross to me but it's a Sicilian delicacy which he has loved for many years and only gets to have once a year. The place is Joe's Of Ave U in Brooklyn.
Left over chicken fricassee for me, hubby is having vastedda which is cow spleen on a bun with fresh ricotta and gachgavale cheese. His mom got it for him at this Sicilian place in Brooklyn.
Well, I guess he has some spleenin' to do (sorry....couldn't resist!! I am SO non-ethnic - I have never heard of many many things I see on this thread.) I'm a pretty boring cook - meat, potatoes, soup, etc - we never had anything fancy like that - I wouldn't even know where to start. I'm glad his mama was able to get it for him though - people need to stay attached to their heritage and family roots.
hubs is not feeling well tonight. He asked if I would make him some oatmeal, so we had oatmeal with real butter and a little brown sugar for dinner. Oh and a piece of toast.
