Hadn't been feeling like cooking for a while so we were winging it. But Batchelor Son worked long hours recently and started showing up after supper too tired to go home and cook so I got into gear and used up a bunch of stuff that's been sitting around.
Don't grade me on menu harmony here. It's truly a hodge-podge of odds and ends. He won't care and neither will DH. I made a huge recipe of mac and cheese with fennel and broccoli, pea salad, country style ribs and sauerkraut, cole slaw and fresh strawberry pie.
Up next and I'm really excited about this - a large flan with rhubarb compote. I haven't been satisfied with the recipe I had been using for flan so I did some reading up and have a few new tricks in my pocket so I'm anxious to see if I can manage to make one of those smooth-as-silk ones you get in a restaurant.
Dennis, what's with the menu change? You're getting adventuresome.
Last night we had pulled pork sammies, coleslaw and homemade potato chips. Time to do a couple more butts as there is only one package of pulled pork left in the deep freezer.
Don't need much as this is my day out for bridge and lunch and spoiled brat will get left over spaghetti so we are having a small steak, green salad and probably some beets or maybe green beans.
I'm burnt, so very early dinner was a small bowl of pasta bolognese. Improvised by squeezing a fresh lemon over the pasta & topping it all with 1/4C sour cream & basil. It was unusual, but nice. Off to bed.
I bought chicken breasts with bone and skin. I'll try to figure out how to cook them. Plus probably some steamed veggies.
