We just came back from a long weekend in Ft. Lauderdale. We stayed one night and couldn't get out fast enough the next morning. Some long weekend! How anyone can call this place home is beyond me. It's one big happy hour.

That's why I live 30 minutes from that. It's there when I need it. But it doesn't sound like you really went west of A1A. I wouldn't describe Las Olas as "one giant happy hour" and there are actually a few museums and even a performing arts center. There is a little more to it than the Elbo Room.

We had dinner at the Samba Room, Las Olas Blvd. A1A for drinks and breakfast the next morning.

I don't know about "fake and artificial". But, coming from the midwest I do find people down here rude. If you do much shopping you'll find that a lot of the clerks feel like you are inconveniencing them by having to help you. I did management for years up north. If a lot of these people worked for me...well they wouldn't be working for me !!!

Don't you think that people are more rude now - in many situations and all over -- not just here. Sometimes, I want to say to them - "you are not Simon from American Idol, so get over yourself!". It is particularly annoying when (as you point out, CK) you are shopping. I think there are very rude store clerks at the Galleria and Boca Town Center. It's like they are doing you a huge favor to ring up your items. I had to wait at a shoe store (9 West) for this sales-girl to finish texting someone before she would ring me up. I guess their managers don't care at this point about revenue - even in this economy.

Agree this is a problem all over America not just in South Florida.

I am sorry, but it isn't "all over America" there are still plenty of places in this country that you can leave your doors unlocked and still feel safe.
