Not sure if you guys remembered but I did a complete backyard renovation.. Well...85% of it. I ripped up the old lawn, tilled it, added screened top soil and some compost and Humic Acid and did 4 test plots using all Rye Grass only.
I added irrigation as well.
Mid August 2022
9 months later end of May 2023
The 4 test plots are using Scotts Rye, Pennington Rye, Grand Slam Rye from Ryan Knorr, 5 Iron from United Seeds.
It has been interesting watching the differences through the seasons and through the routines.
5 Iron was the slowest to green up coming out of winter but was deep green and thick without the fertlizer
Grand Slam is the thickest and germinated the fastest (4 days) and retained green through winter but is the lightest color of green
Pennington germinated the worst so is the thinnest and has most weeds but got super dark green after adding Milorganite
Scotts poorly germinated so was thin but had the greenest color coming out of winter
I'm cutting it at 1.5". I always wanted short cut grass finally I have it.
Also want to note, moss issues GONE after doing all this.
I was thinking the same thing! Cambium, your lawn is beautiful. Are you going to put down more seed of the one you like best, of just let it all be?
I have a riding mower for my back lawn -- usually start with a high setting and then lower it later as needed. Years ago, though, I made the mistake of moving the lever from the 2nd-top level to the bottom in one move. When I turned the blades back on, they sliced the belt. I thought it was freaky but I did it again (stupid me, great experiment ) and of course the same thing happened when I turned the blades back on. I literally have to move the blades down 1 level at a time to keep this from happening.
Working on my lawn will be NEXT YEAR'S spring/summer yard project. This year I want to get new beds prepared for the future.
I will trade ya. All Memorial Day weekend all it did was spritz and rain rinse and repeat. We had sun yesterday and it hit the mid 70's and today all cloudy and windy. I only have a pepper, a cherry tomato and a beefsteak tomato and I am starting to think not a big crop this year.

Don't give up. I've been at this since last month and finally got some cucumbers to sprout. I planted tomato plants and they are doing well, though not growing much yet, and I think I saw another sprout making an effort yesterday. I also thought I had not much, but in a week, and with the blasting hot ONE day, things are turning around.
Yesterday I found two 7" tomato plants growing in container of last years dirt. I didn't plant tomato seeds this year, only bought cherry size so a nice surprise. I recognize one of them because of the potato leaf, big pink heirloom, the other will let me know what it is later on.
Moved them into pots/open shade and when stabilized they'll go into garden. Too hot and sunny next 7 days to put them there now.
Dropped to 44F. Here's the soil temp this morning 4" deep. 61.1°! In June
On April 15th it was 60.9°
