They were actually cowboys, not a good thing apparently according to the Willie Nelson song.

One of my ancestors, was named after his father, instead of calling him junior, they called him "younger". Kind of like that rather than Junior.
I never liked the "unisex" name thing, in that forever that name is afterwards thought of as a girls name. It rarely ever goes back to a boys name.

Remember the Waltons? The eldest son was called John Boy because he was named after his father.

My parents have said this was actually done way back when. If dad was Joe, then junior was called Joe Boy. Srlsy.

I loved it when the middle names were more like last names (I believe they were usually the mother's last name, or something along those lines; I can post examples if you don't know what I mean--just in the middle of two 12-hour shifts, so no time at the moment; quite tired too, so finding it difficult to think of any right now).

I find it much more interesting than the middle name sounding like a first name; I find those kind of middle names to be rather bland.

I wish folks would name their children after someone or something that means something to them. In our family, kids are named after favorite family members or important people. I'm named after my dad and my mom's mom. My husband and I loved our grandparents' names. I wish more folks would return to that.

I also noticed that quite a few of my ancestors were named after presidents. There's a few men on my tree with first and middle names that were Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Andrew Jackson, even Delano (as in FDR).

Strangely though I can't recall ever hearing of any Abraham Lincolns.

Some of my ancestors and relatives were Confederate, so that doesn't surprise me.
