It's hard to pick just one. . .

I have a Phineas, a Josiah, 2 Ebenezers, a handful of Cyruses, but they aren't nearly as bad as Orange (male), or Lemon (one of Orange's sons), or Amasa (2 of them), or Almiron.

Thanks. There are more but I didn't want to scare people. I just picked highlights.

I used to tell my mother that there was apparently a gene on both sides of her family that compelled people to come up with really bad names for their kids.

Mine too. I kind of wish they'd used it again. I've had a couple of people ask if I had the heritage. Her nickname was Fem. She was also rather excentric.

One of my g-grandmothers was given seven names because she was born with a caul, a veil over the face, which is actually part of the amniotic sac, I believe. I knew all seven of her names when I was a kid, but the only two I can remember now are Johnny and Gabriel.

Apparently it was traditional to give a baby born with a caul seven names, but I can't find any mention of it by googling.

I have an old family. I was born in the late 60s and my grandmother was born in the late 1800s so I've got some interesting names in my immediate family- and that's the younger side. My dad was born in 1912 or 1913, I was never sure as the documents burned in a courthouse fire and he probably lied to join the military as a teenager. On my mom's side my aunts were Flossie Marie, Bernice Muriel and Essma Olene. I also have a great aunt (or great-great) that was named Siambra. My dad was Zelmer with sisters Zola, Alta and Alma and a few with run of the mill names. His mother was Luvicie. Needless to say we did not use any of my family names for our children nor did my mother.

I'll trade you Jones and Williams for Kelly.
