I think this makes sense. Plus it originally was supposed to be this way. Originally Wisconsin was supposed to go down to the south shore of Lake Michigan. The Southern Part of Illinois would do alright though and wouldn't be terrible without Chicago. Granted if this had happened historically some city would have been developed that would have become larger (probably Peoria or Springfield). And if Wisconsin had included the area that was Chicago back in the day, Milwaukee would be not as big and more like a suburb of Chicago.

If anything, Chicago would be its own state--it's no more similar to Wisconsin than it is the rest of Illinois.

True. I was talking more historically speaking. Today yes, Chicago could be it's own state.

Short of that, I hope the Eastern Shores of Maryland and Virginia can be combined with Delaware to form Delmarva. It would also be better if Western Maryland could become merged with West Virginia, then they will not have to deal with the high state taxes from Annapolis, and will be able to develop their natural gas industry and coal mining without the liberal environmental restrictions.
AMEN!!!!!!!

If we wanted to redraw the states to try and group similar cultures, political affiliations, etc. together, then this would be a huge step in the right direction. While we're at it, let's go one huge step further and say we make the entire Northeast Corridor (i.e. every county through which Interstate 95 passes, and a few other adjacent ones to be determined on a case-by-case basis) from Washington D.C. (including Fairfax and Arlington counties, VA) all the way up to Boston as its own separate state. Sure, it'll look kind of like Chile, all long and skinny-like. But the sound of thundrous applause from the rest of Maryland alone will drown out everything else!

And speaking of Maryland, we don't want to have another two-part state (I'm looking at YOU, Michigan!), cut in half by the State of Northeast Corridor; so the Eastern Shore would merge with Virginia's Eastern Shore and Delaware (less New Castle County) to form the State of Delmarva. We may need to add parts of South Jersey to this state as well, though this means we'll have to build a bridge between Cape May and Lewes. Southern Maryland could be merged with Virginia, but only after they replace the Gov. Nice Bridge with something wider and better designed. Western Maryland could merge with West Virginia.

If, on the other hand, the point is simply to make more reasonable-looking shapes, disregarding population and culture, then I would combine Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware into the (much larger) State of Delmarva (postal code DM). Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island would become the State of New England (postal code NE; Nebraska would be changed to NB). The New York metro and the Philadelphia metro would be cut off from their respective states and merged with New Jersey to form the state of Philajerseyork (PJ), informally referred to as "Phil's a Jerk."

Merge New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia and the District of Columbia into a state called either Chesapeake or Pennsylvania with the capital in Washington. Pennsylvania would be a better name for the merged state and the word Pennsylvanian would sound better than New Yorker or Marylander for the expanded nationality. Chesapeake/Pennsylvania would rival California in land area and cities and the new state would have about 20 million more people than California. The new state would have the nations largest city and the nations capital. Think New York, Washington, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Finger Lakes, Chesapeake and Delaware Bays, Long Island, Jersey Shore, Ocean City, Virginia Beach, Richmond, Albany, Syracuse and the Appalachians in a single state. The new state would have Hudson, Delaware, Susquehanna, Potomac and James Rivers.

There will be no redrawing for any states. It will stay just as it is. I guess gerrymandering is the only way that conservatives think they can win.

There's a conservative venture capitalist in silicon valley who is trying to get CA split into 6 states. This, to dilute the voting power of the Dems in the state since Republicans are non-existent. Won't happen.

I forgot about Chesapeaker or Chesapeakite. Chesapeaker or Chesapeakite would be a good sounding name too.

This is how I would rearrange the states:

New Jersey:

All of New Jersey (21 Counties)
All of Delaware (New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties)
New York City (The Five Boroughs)
Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk)
Delaware Valley (Philadelphia, Montgomery, Chester, Bucks and Delaware counties)
Lehigh Valley (Berks, Lehigh, Northampton, Schuylkill, Carbon and Monroe counties)
The Poconos (Susquehanna, Wayne, Pike, Lackawanna, Luzerne and Wyoming counties)
Lower Hudson Valley (Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam, Duchess, Ulster and Sullivan counties)
Western Connecticut (Fairfield, Litchfield and New Haven counties)

California (the southern parts of California, Northern California would become part of Nevada):

Greater Los Angeles (Los Angeles, Ventura and Orange counties)
Inland Empire (San Bernardino and Riverside counties)
San Diego County
Imperial County
San Luis Obispo County
Kern County
Santa Barbara County
Clark County

1. Give Chicago and Northern Illinois to Wisconsin and merge the rest of Illinois with Missouri.
2. Annex Southern Ontario (any part of Ontario south of the 45th parallel north) as a state called Ontario. The rest of Ontario would stay in Canada and become part of Manitoba.
3. Merge Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont and the rest of Connecticut as a state called New England.
4. Annex New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia as a state called Nova Scotia.
5. Make Puerto Rico a state.
6. Have Arkansas take over Western Tennessee and Northern Mississippi. Southern Mississippi would become part of Louisiana.
7. Give the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to Wisconsin.
8. Merge North Dakota and South Dakota into a state called Dakota.
9. Merge Montana, Wyoming and Idaho into a state called Wytanho.
10. Annex Baja California peninsula as a state called Baja California.
11. Annex Sonora as a state.
12. Annex Chihuahua as a state and have Chihuahua take over any part of Texas west of the TX-NM border.
13. Annex Coahulia, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas as a state called Rio Grande.
14. Divide the rest of Texas into 2 states, North Texas and South Texas and give the Texas Panhandle to Oklahoma.
15. Have Virginia take over DC, Maryland and Eastern West Virginia. Then have the rest of West Virginia and western parts of Virginia become part of Kentucky.

DC should become a state and take Northern Virginia and the Maryland suburbs with it. Let the liberal elites tax themselves for their mass transit lines and fund their own illegal alien friendly colleges.
