Houston doesn't lack soul: Houston's mindblowing ugliness is absolutely unforgettable.
I could say that such unbelievable amount of ugliness represents Houston' soul.

What arrogant statement? You mean the quote from Tennessee Williams? And who doesnt feel the uniqueness and soul in NYC or New Orleans I think thats a bit of a stretch...

Just because there cities aren't failing doesn't mean they're ''soulless''. The only similarity I see between the five is growth...

None of the above.... I think people need to look up definitions because most people seem to be clueless on these types of things

If I had to guess, I would say NYC would be the most soul less

They have the mainstream media headquarters, Wall St, The fashion industry, rap music ground zero, ..... in other words, all the industries who have helped destroy Americas soul

Yeah, we know, we are all jealous

Or we could say that anywhere ITALIANUSER likes would be soul less since he lacks one apparently

The fact that you don't see the quotation marks (clearly indicative of me referencing someone else's statement) tells me you don't read much...

Keep in mind the Tennessee Williams quote was probably from some time in the mid 20th century. I think that was a much more fair thing to say during that era, when there weren't any significant cities besides New Orleans yet in the South, and most cities in the North were either a Cleveland-like mixture of "white ethnics" or places like Los Angeles which were only recently built up and very homogeneous.

I think Philly definitely has soul.... so does Washington, DC and Baltimore. Chicago too.

Newer cities like Orlando, Atlanta, Phoenix, etc def lack that "urban grit" factor or longevity that other cities have enjoyed.

I was recently in Orlando and everything seemed new. The roads, the shops, the houses, schools, etc. Nothing seemed older than 1984.

Yea I agree totally. I love Chicago almost as much as I love New Orleans. My votes were for Orlando and Dallas. I found absolutely NOTHING unique or...indelible about these cities at all. I do like Atlanta, and I feel that eventually it will feel less "pretend"...
