Speak for yourself. Regardless of what region of the country you're from to ask if there's a city in those states (or any state for that matter) is naive at best. Every state has a city let alone two of the original states in this country.
Whenever you hear "Philadelphia", practically nobody thinks of some podunk town in Mississippi over the major city. This list isn't of places that have completely unique names.
Its only note is being the site of the brutal murders of three Civil Rights activists in 1964.
Several California cities not on the list that are well known by name or I would think people would know which state they are located in when these names come up.
Sacramento
Oakland
Long Beach
Compton
Maybe:
Gary
Birmingham- It was actually named after the one in England. However, I would assume in the USA people think this is in reference to AL.
Jacksonville
Orlando

Long Beach isn't unique. There's one in Washington at least.
Oakland maybe, but it's also not unique. Pittsburgh's comes to mind (a major district).
Compton no way, despite some notoriety.
Sacramento sure.
Birmingham I doubt. The England issue, plus it's kind of off the radar.
Jacksonville and Orlando yes.
