I foresee Pittsburgh becoming a rising star in the 2020s.
I have heard good things about Chattanooga as well.
I do not know much about El Paso to comment.
Lancaster, Pennsylvania is also gaining a lot of traction and I foresee that becoming a second "Asheville" in terms of name recognition of a smaller mid size metro in the 2020s.
It impressively has many big city Amenities and is very affordable and close to many major metros and the Atlantic beaches.
Would you say Lancaster is more affordable than Greensboro, NC?
Bend, Oregon, in the inland region, is a popular, fast-growing small city, convenient to outdoor recreational activities of all kinds.
Prescott, Arizona, is very popular, growing small city. It's at a higher elevation and much cooler climate than greater Phoenix and Vegas, but not as freezing as Flagstaff AZ.
For some reason, Knoxville, TN ranks very high in air pollution, Not what you would expect of such a modest, medium-size city.
Not sure if it's due to the mountains creating a pollution-trapping inversion (similar to Salt Lake City, and Mexico City?) or if because of all the tourist traffic around Gatlinburg?
I've visited Knoxville many times and never noticed any obvious air quality issues. I don't think it is comparable to Salt Lake City at all, let alone Mexico City - the mountains are much lower and there is frequent rain to clear out the air. Some people may have a hard time with allergies from all the vegetation in the area.
I'm excited about Knoxville. I'm a remote worker so I can relocate anywhere. I choose Knoxville ( this summer) because its like Reno, NV where I live now -- no state income taxes and low property taxes but much cheaper COL and housing. I can't wait to move.
