Around Omaha, it's Runza -- ground beef and cabbage baked into dough -- sort of a holupki (those of us of Polish ancestry will understand) in a bun.

Not sure if it’s technically considered fast-food, but Portillo’s would be a local fast food type place.
We have have Jollibees (sp?) here too due to the pretty large Filipino population.

What are some other equivalents?

Wisconsin: Culver's
South Africa: Nando's

There used to be more of them in the Midwest but they've largely retreated. The one in Chicago is actually out in the suburbs and it's located in a gas station convenience store so I imagine it's pretty skeezy even by fast food standards.

Explaining Buc-ees to non Texans:

"I don't know, it's huge and has really clean bathrooms and there's a beaver."

I was trying to explain this to a friend of mine who lives in South Carolina and I said this and "Oh, and they have everything PLUS the kitchen sink for anyone in anything on any sort of road trip ever."

Now if only Biscuitville would follow suit. *sigh*

Chick-fil-A is the most successful regional fast-food story, and the one that probably evokes the strongest emotions.

Jersey Mike's is starting to challenge Blimpie for NJ.

In-an-Out Burger may have a bit more pride in CA, but Taco Bell is by far the most iconic fast-food chain to come out of that state, basically competing with the titans (McDonald's, KFC, Wendy's, Burger King).

For North Dakota, that Space Aliens sounds sort of creepy, and it "barely" qualifies as a chain as there are just three locations: Fargo, Bismarck, and another in suburban MSP.

That's Del's Frozen Lemonade for RI for those who can't make it out, and until recently I've never heard of its reputation.
