Florida , bash. yes , I will add my vote also, for worst southern state. lived there 5 years. Bugs, humid, rednecks, remote compared to rest of country ( takes a full day , just to drive out of the place ! )............now, Key West , .thats not realy Florida......its the Conch Republic !...I could live there, in the winter that is.
Talk about bugs. I remember walking around at night in Florida and seeing thousands of palmettos--huge, 2-3 inch long cockroaches--scurrying around outside. I don't have a problem in my apartments, but those guys really thrive down there. I suppose that my cats enjoyed eating them.
Kentucky being the best with West Virginia and Tennessee being a close second. Virginia being a distant third. North Carolina in there somewhere between Kentucky and the rest!
I would say South Carolina, because it has Charleston and beautiful beaches. Most of the other Southern states are now being overrun with sprawl and growth IMO
Location: Shepherdsville and Frankfort, Kentucky, soon to be somewhere in TEXAS!

TEXAS tops--great people, hospitality, cuisine, cities, towns, scenery, diversity, everything! May not be considered "Southern" by Southerners, but still has the elements of Southern hospitality.
Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia (the natives, anyway,) and Tennessee (1/2 hour or more south of KY) are all friendly and truly Southern.
Kentucky--I live here, stay away, it sucks, it's full of mean, uncouthe rednecks and stuck-up "white trash with money."
im voting for South Carolina because of the beautiful beaches and Charleston.
I also love the mountains (there aren't that many) but i put it before NC because of Charleston
I noticed West Virginia isn't on the list, but I can see why, considering its history. And ditto for Maryland. But those are good places.
I like Virginia and eastern Tennessee the most. Overall I had pleasant experiences in both places.
I spent some time in Huntsville, AL and thought it was pretty cool too. I mainly just drive through Alabama, but it seems similar to Tennessee.
Now Florida. Hum..I lived there for several years and to me, it didn't feel down home southern like the other southern states, mainly due to large number of non-natives and a large east coast and midwest populace. But overall, I enjoyed Florida. It was just different.
Coastal Virginia is nice, just very expensive ....but its beautiful!
