Personally I think the foods in school cafeterias are fine because they serve a portion that is healthy. Its when people go home and eat with their family, that they end up eating massive amounts of rich foods, like giant portions of ice cream and all the donuts and fried foods they can possibly consume. You hear the parents of obese children telling them "what's the matter, why aren't you eating enough?" and they go and give the child more food. This is clearly a problem that needs to be stopped .

Yes, actually, it does mean to eat more, about 100 calories/day (a glass of milk) during the first trimester, and perhaps as much as 300 calories/day during the second and third trimester for a woman who began pregnancy at a healthy weight.

The obesity rate in Canada (14.3%) is about half of what it is in the USA (30.6%). I wonder if it ever occurred to anyone to look and see what Canada is doing differently, that keeps their population slim. But Canada is doing their health care all wrong, so we don't want to copy their mistakes.

We could always encourage more relatively slim Mexicans (24.2%) to come to the US, and pull our average down.

Both countries love great food, cooking and good wine. People need to celebrate food more.

I subscribe to a magazine that has natural solutions to health problems . They do research on the food people eat and what helps and what corrupts the body. They have discovered that items with high fructose corn syrup (almost everything) make a person fat because it stops the natural process where the stomach tells the brain that its full, so the person continues eating till they have consumed a large amount of food.

The food makers need to change these ingredients and make the food everyone eats healthier. It is their fault people are so overweight. They need to stop being cheap and start adding sugar to products instead of that disgusting corn syrup.
I really hate that excuse. Some pregnant women equate "eating for 2" to doubling their caloric intake, then use the "I'm pregnant" excuse to justify their 60-100 pound weight gain, that never seems to come off, even 5 years after the fact. Don't get me wrong. Pregnancy changes your body and metabolism, and it can be much harder, if not down right impossible to get your old body back, however a pregnancy should not cause you to become obese. Overweight, possibly, but not obese.

I do agree that too many foods have added crap in them, that contributes to excessive weight gain. Yes, it would be great if it were required for companies to use more natural ingredients. However, how much will that cost? Will people be willing to spend $3 on an item that used to cost $1?

Thats probably what it is. Many companies have now started selling products with real ingredients in them and they cost more than 100% percent the product that has "corn syrup". As an example, a small 18 oz bottle, or so, of SoBe drink costs, an average of $3.00. It contains real sugar instead of corn syrup. Compare that to a 12-pack of Sprite's that sell for about 2 dollars. The price difference is tremendous. So something needs to be done about that. Perhaps the price of sugar needs to go down.
