Using synthetic oil and limiting the amount of oil changes to twice a year.(i feel this is very easy and doable) The addition of a bypass filter would help this.
Offer tax incentives to people. So they would relocate closer to where they work. Sure is easier on a person if their commute is only a few miles.
I prefer to make my own choices and decisions about what I drive. It's nobody elses business.

I guess if your living requirements, environment and health allow it it's fine.

Let us know how riding a bicycle in Austin Texas with 100+ degree temperatures carrying things in the basket attached to your handlebars work out for ya...

I have yet to see in this thread any common sense ideas about saving oil, like:

~ Use a push mower instead of a gasoline powered mower

~ Plan your driving day to minimize the amount of driving you do

~ keep your vehicle well maintained

No wonder why environmentalists have a hard time when communicating. They always come up with ideas that make no sense to a normal American citizen...

Hmm. So recommending that somebody consider whether they will use a larger, less efficient vehicle enough to warrant the additional fuel costs; or that they try bike riding for some of their trips makes no sense but these suggestions do? Let's take the cynical ("don't ask me to sacrifice") approach to your suggestions that is so common among "anti-environmentalists":

~ Use a push mower instead of a gasoline powered mower

"My yard is too big, I like the neat lines my gas-powered mower makes, and I don't like to leave grass clippings on the yard"

~ Plan your driving day to minimize the amount of driving you do

"I shouldn't have to go to this level of effort to plan and organize my day. It minimizes my freedom to drive whenever I'd like to and make multiple spur-of-the-moment trips during a day."

~ keep your vehicle well maintained

"It costs too much and won't ever pay for itself in increased fuel savings."

Wouldn't need to ride a bicycle using a push mower...

If thinking about where you have to travel on a particular day is too much effort you have my sympathy...

Who talked about maintaining ones vehicle would only pay off in fuel savings? I think you are in the wrong thread dude...

Ever hear of an engine seizure? How about worn piston rings? Leaking pan gasket/valve covers? Leaking brake fluid? <--- OIL

You don't have to tell me. But you do sound an awful lot like those hectoring environmentalists.

If you want to save oil/gas just raise the price, usage will go down. Raise the price to $10 a gallon and see usage drop by 50%. How many people know that the U.S.uses less oil now then it has for about 8 years. Fewer and fewer people are getting drivers licenses and there are fewer cars on the road now. Maybe the people on the coasts don't see much difference but here in the bread basket of the U.S. it's pretty obvious that traffic is down. Yesterday I had to drive to town (about 30 miles) and didn't even see a vehicle of any kind the first 12 miles and this was at noon on a weekday.

The only place I have heard anyone saying that we need to get rid of pickups is on this forum. In the 90% of the center of the country pickups are the main form of transportation and required here in farm and ranch country. The second vehicle is a car.

It is evident to me that you haven't a clue about what America is about. All these ludicrous, fascist steps to save a little bit of oil.

Are you serious?

Save all the oil you wish, but most of us only live once and aren't going to allow our lives to be boxed in by another's fascistic thinking.
