Not that Im really interested in suing anyone. it was a firm of Printers in Glasgow where I got sick way back in the mid 60s when I was a teenager... Years later when I did talk with a friend who is a lawyer I was told that if I didnt have notes on my medical file that I suffered from sickness due to chemicals at work there wasnt a thing now that I can do...back then doctors wanted to treat me with pills for depressions and anxiety , both of which I didnt have.. and refused this medication..
This happened to me 20 years ago too. It was humiliating and insulating as I was really suffering with "real", physical symptoms and received no help from Drs.
I avoid Drs as much as possible. I also have other genetic health conditions and treat symptoms thru diet for now.

I too keep well away from GPs as they refuse or dont help some have raised their eyebrows over the years,, so I just gave up ages ago trying to get help or even mentioning MCS.. or symptoms... Once though about 15 years ago there was a new locum younger doctor in place of the one I had ..I was down to have my BP taken as its been out of control for over 30 years. and they cant find the cause.... Anyway I brough up Environmental illness and how long Ive suffered and how my life was more like a prisoner in my own home.. he sat back in his chair . shook his head and said... "the damage the internet has caused".. meaning I was getting all my info on here.....I got angry stood up walked to the door and turned round and said...Look back at my files Doctor...this all started in 1964..no internet then.. and slammed the door on my way out..

Wow, what an ignorant fool that young doctor is! They like to tell you it's all in your head but I'd respect them a lot more if they could at least admit that they don't know.
I was reading somewhere that the younger generations aren't falling for this bunk about artificially scented products. Don't know how true that is; the advertisers are very good at convincing people that everything needs to have this (fake) fresh smell.

It's easier to "fly under the radar" with Drs, otherwise they'll put something about your mental health being "off" in your medical records.
When I was initially met with opposition about the idea of having MCS from the first three internal medicine specialists, I literally begged for help from, I instinctively knew to just give up and keep my mouth shut at that point.
They were not open to the idea of damage from chemicals 20 years ago. Since then I've had many invasive procedures and surgeries for a failed pancreatic duct. So I've learned to not talk about MCS so Drs will never blow off my pancreatic symptoms as well.
I've never brought MCS up in 20 years inorder to receive care for my other health conditions. I also suffer from a connective tissue disease called Marfans. As I age I'll really need Drs to help me with my vascular system and heart valve disorders. So I keep quiet about MCS so they won't think I'm crazy and will continue to take me seriously and help me when I need it.
I've considered using an energy healer or naturopath, but not sure if they can help a Marfans patient. I too have high BP, but don't want to take meds.

My son's asthma Dr is not young and has written papers about this fragrance chemical connection. He's a specialist in Seattle and knows so much about this stuff. I wish more Dr's were like him. He's spent his entire career specializing in this kind of thing. He calls my kids and I "canaries in a coal mine" and does believe in MCS.
He was the first of the many Drs my son saw to finally confirm my son's skin rash and asthma symptoms were from the fragrance chemicals my son was exposed to at preschool. These symptoms subsided after he stopped attending that preschool.
I dont know why hospitals dont ban all fragrances.. same with doctors surgeries.. dentists etc.. surely by now they realize this isnt good for anyone but especially those who are ill with low immunities.. its crazy in this day and age..

I've noticed at every Dr's office I visit the antiseptic washes and hand sanitizers are heavily scented. The sanitizing wipes kept by their small wash up sink are scented as well.
Whenever I've received an ultrasound the gel used is also fragranced.
Dental offices always have very strong fragrance odors on the chairs and waiting room furniture.
Most offices I've visited use air freshener too. This is why I need to just start going to a naturopath for health care, or Chinese medicine type Dr.
Thanks New England. I always enjoy your posts because I know you "get it". I hope more people will figure this all out.
I miss the 1970''s-90''s when this stuff wasn't an issue. In the meantime we plan on moving way out to the middle of nowhere in about a year.
Some of it was an issue back then, but the issues weren't publicized like they are today. Nowadays, finally, MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity) is recognized as a real health issue, and the public is more informed about toxicity issues in general, including covert pollution of water supplies by industry, and so forth. Fabric softeners were invented in the 1960's. it's just taken awhile for public opinion to shift, from greeting that development as a wonderful "convenience" to noticing the chemical fallout, and considering it toxic.
I don't remember fabric softener ever being necessary when I grew up. I remember laundry hanging outside on the clothesline to be air-dried in the sun, coming in with nothing more than a fresh-air smell. Even when dried in the drier, laundry didn't need fabric softener. Was there some trick to washing/drying laundry, that some people knew back then, that industry advertising caused them to forget or disregard?

There must be regional differences around the US. No Dr's office I've been to in the last 20 years has had any fragranced product in it; certainly no air freshener, or fragranced soap. Many have signs on the door or at the receptionist's desk saying, "fragrance-free environment". Awareness of a sensitivity to fragrances and chemical odors as a fairly common concern has spread in recent decades. And before the new millennium, there weren't that many fragranced products available. It's a recent trend, that industry started adding fragrance to products as a marketing tool. And it's backfired.

LOL, nope, we didn't need fabric softener then and we don't need it now. Industry has found a lot of gullible people and convinced them that they need it, that's all. At the moment, I have pillow cases and small towels air drying on a small rack dryer on the balcony and the sheets are drying indoors on a large rack. I'd dry everything outside if we were allowed to but this is an apartment complex and I guess it would look bad.
There's no trick at all to odorless laundry though. It's called "fresh air."
