We indeed agree on this point, then. There's no reason to freak out over it, because I believe the earth is probably amazingly resilient. I imagine it would be here for eons to come even if we someday destroy ourselves. But I do believe we need to work hard to become a cleaner and more environmentally friendly society (and I think the U.S. is doing fairly well at this compared to many countries).

What I find interesting about the entire Global Warming debate is that ...lets say for argument sake that Global Warming isn't happening(BTW which is true..)....And lets say that tomorrow that every notable scientists comes out and states that they had been wrong about Global Warming... it's not happening...It would break the hearts of all these global warming believers...Its as though they want it to be true the earth is burning up...I think alot of these global warming believers lack something in their personal lives and need GW to give meaning to their lives...

First of all, that article is alarmist crap that is based entirely on unfair comparisons. He's comparing a one year average with a one-hundred year average. Ridiculous. In addition, he's admitting that El Nino is really the cause, but just has to throw in "global warming" as a contributor.

So, speaking of anecdotal evidence... About 10 years ago my family vacationed on the North Shore, near Grand Marais, MN. It was August and had been an unusually hot summer. The water of Lake Superior was so warm we could swim comfortably in it. 5 years later, my sons & I took a quick trip through Canada and came back down the North Shore Drive. We stopped at the same place, camped there, and intended to swim. Unfortunately it had been a cool summer, and the waters of Lake Superior were so cold that we pretty much froze our balls off, and hypothermia started to set in after about 15 minutes.

We can thus conclude that the average temperature of Lake Superior dropped markedly in 5 years, right? And would that not be proof-positive of Global COOLING?

Nice!

Obviously, it was the smoke from their fires that caused GW.

For the readers amongst us. Only the abstract, however. You have to be a member of AAAS, or pay $15 for single-use.

Recent Warming Reverses Long-Term Arctic Cooling -- Kaufman et al. 325 (5945): 1236 -- Science

The gist, from my perspective: The earth was ~600,000 miles closer to the sun around 2000 years ago. It has been moving outward ever since, which means that a gradual cooling trend has been occurring due to lower solar insolation (sunlight incident to earth's surface). This gradual cooling trend has been reversed in the 20th century by, guess what? Human-induced global warming. Author's story, not mine.

But, alas; no photos of 2000-year-old Arctic trees....

Enjoy.
