Greenville Mall was cool. I used to hang out there in the 90s when I was in high school. Much less crowded than Haywood. Great pizza place and arcade. Even an oyster bar.
It was such a nice mall. Really too bad that it didn't even last 10 years.
Well, the new version didn't even last 10 years. It re-opened in 1995 and by the early 2000s, it was gone--most certainly dead to the world by 2005.
It had the "GSPNative" curse. Every nice store I like closes down: Parisian, Harold's, (more recently) Brooks Brothers, etc.
The original version was dead to the world by the mid-80s, if not sooner. I never recall people going there, except to JB White, and by the late '80s, it seemed run-down and largely vacant.

JB White was a very popular store and probably the malls biggest draw until Dillard's acquired White's parent company around 1998. The parking lot was packed when White's would have those moonlight madness sales.
Just before the 90's renovation Haywood Mall tried to lure JB White to anchor their new fifth wing where Dillard's is now. JB White opted to stay and expand their store at Greenville Mall.
It was nice to have a bakery on that side of town. I miss Strossner's being on E. North St close to DT. It was always much easier to get in and out than the current location on Roper Mountain @ Congaree Rd. Back in the 90's Congaree was a popular spot to move to with all it's restaurants. I remember the current Strossner's building on Roper/Congaree was originally a Chi Chi's Mexican Restaurant.

Rio Bravo was in the Strossners location. Good times
