We just pick up the paper at Publix when we want it, usually on Sunday, along with the Charlotte Observer.

I don't even know what cover price of the paper is anymore. When I canceled, the lady said the cover price was $2.50 for the Sunday paper. If true, I would never pay that. The coupons would rarely cover that cost, since they've gone downhill big time over the past 3 months.

Like someone else said, the news is 12 hours old by the time the paper comes out anyway. How do they think they'll retain customers, let alone add new ones, when they're adding services and cost to someone's bill with minimal or no notice.

The same thing happened to me. Went from paying 4 something to 10 bucks for the sunday only delivery. Called and cancelled. Now I get called at home at least three times a week asking me to subscribe. They are offering daily delivery for less than the 10 they were charging for the Sunday paper.

I refuse to buy a Greenville News anymore. As for coupons some of the same ones show up in one of the free papers we get once a week.

Their main customer base is people who meet the following two criteria:

1. Are used to reading a daily paper/have it as part of their routine
2. Don't have internet/don't go online for news

Fewer and fewer people are falling into both of these categories. Most of these people are older and, for lack of a better term, "dying off." I believe that printed daily newspapers will be gone in 10 years.

Last time I checked, an online subscription to the G'ville News was $9 and something. We get it "free" because we subscribe to the paper anyway. The only time I use it is during the summer when I want to read the SAIL swimming stats. Something doesn't add up here...
For local news I can go to FoxCarolina or WYFF of WSPA.
I used to justify our subscription because of the coupon savings, but as someone already pointed out, the coupons aren't that good anymore.

The daily newstand price is now $1.00, which is too high. $2.50 on Sunday. While the Charlotte Observer is still .75 weekdays and $2.00 Sundays. More reasonable. And I still miss the Atlanta paper being distributed here, especially on Sundays. It always sold well.

Last week I noted the monthly charges for 7 day subscription jumped from $ 22 to $ 29, a whopping 32% more!

How greedy can you get? And how long can GNews continue operations by charging more to make up for circulation loss?

GNews "a'int" that good a paper. The paper quality is so low its hard to read, has many smudges and the content is mostly stuff from somewhere else.

They convinced my elderly mother to subscribe a few months back. Delivery was sporadic. Then she broke her hip and was going to be hospitalized and in rehab for a few weeks, so I called them to cancel. I didn't want to just stop it temporarily, as she hadn't been getting the paper regularly anyway. She had prepaid for a couple months. They refused to cancel and refund the balance, and said they could deliver it to me instead until the subscription ran out. I said fine, I could bring them to her at the hospital for her to read when visiting. I got the paper the next day, and then never again. Called, and they had no explanation as to why or apparently how to fix the situation, as they said they would, but we never got a paper again. Between issues like this and the ease in getting news online, it's no wonder the print industry is in turmoil.

You can get coupons online, you don't need a print paper to get them:

For the life of me I had no idea newspapers were still being printed.
