Hey guys, I'm a native but I want to strongly encourage all of you who are considering the move here to seriously consider renting first. It truly does take a while to get a handle on the good and not-so-good neighborhoods. YOu can't depend on your real estate agents to tell you which neighborhoods are good and which are not. My agent said there are certain comments/observations which they are not allowed to make. As much as you may hate feeling like you are taking a step back, just think about how much $$ you will save in the long run in the event that you land in an unpleasant area and have to pay the realtor fee to unload it a year down the line. Best of luck to you with your move. We have open arms and some remaining wide open spaces for nice folks like y'all.

Tinabean...
We're looking foward to our upcoming move in about a year! Thanks for the welcome
I am one of those people who would have preferred to just find a house to buy before moving, but have come to realize the hassle of renting for awhile & moving twice would give us more peace of mind in the long run because we would have the time to find the "right neighborhood for us" to buy a home in. Other then that, let's just suppose that we find we're not that happy about our relocation to the Greenville area (of course that's not what's going to happen), it will be much easier to up & go if we're renting, rather then having to worry about selling our home, especially in this economy & in this housing market!
I agree with what you've said regarding the real estate agents. They are trying to sell you a house to make a commission, although I'm sure there are plenty of agents who do care about having a happy client in the end. I'm sure they can help out with finding the home that has what someone is looking for physically, but there's more to it then just that.
