Last year I got the flu in spite of taking the vaccine, but that is the only year it has happened. The recovery was much quicker than when I've had the flu in the past without having taken the vaccine.

Yes, really, flu is airborne.
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/disease/spread.htm
"People with flu can spread it to others up to about 6 feet away. Most experts think that flu viruses are spread mainly by droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. Less often, a person might also get flu by touching a surface or object that has flu virus on it and then touching their own mouth or nose."

People's general health status and resistance to infection play a role. Sometimes it's just pure luck.

I know a lot of my husbands co workers took the shot and they are all sick with it now . My husband did not take it and his work helper did not take it and they are both healthy and working on . Those that took the flu shot have been at home for at least two weeks it almost got to the point that boss man was going to shut down the shop . But no the ones who did not take the shot are well and healthy .This is why you should wipe down handles on grocery carts and door knobs etc . I gave my husband some Lysol wipes to take to work with him to wipe down door handles and I m hoping that helped cut down on transfer of sick germs .

I don't get flu shots either and it's been a very long time since I've had the flu. I think I've had it once, possibly twice in my life.

Death of Teen Athlete a Reminder That Flu Can Kill Anyone - NBC News
"Kayla Linton was a healthy, all-around athlete, but being fit did not protect her from the flu."

Just sayin'.

Twenty pediatric flu deaths nationwide so far this flu season. Pediatric deaths are laboratory confirmed cases, not estimates.

I didn't mean no it's not airborne. You said the only way to not get the flu was to quit breathing.

I know you were exaggerating, I'm just saying for some reason, many of us just don't get the flu.

When I went to the doctor in January for my annual physical, I mentioned to him that I hadn't yet had a flu shot for the year. He actually told me not to bother. He said the vaccine is not working on the strain of flu it's supposed to combat. I hope he's right, because I took his advice and didn't get one.

What I meant by that was the flu is airborne. You can wash your hands till they bleed and you can still breathe in flu virus. That does not mean I am opposed to good hygiene, quite the opposite in fact.

Yes, not everyone exposed gets it.

I don't know where he got his information.
Naples sixth-grader dies of flu complications - News - MPNnow - Canandaigua, NY
"This year's vaccine for the general population covers four strains, with a release from the New York State Department of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicating a good match."

That's just one citation.

The "conventional wisdom" is that it's never too late in the season to get a shot. I was just at the doctor yesterday for my physical and the doctor asked me the same, my answer being "yes". He said flu is just starting to heat up here in Colorado.

As Kat said, this is not true.

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/

Of the viruses categorized so far, the vast majority are one of the four in the vaccine. Scroll down to "Antigenic Characterization". Frankly, I would suggest passing the information on to your doctor.

There is flu activity everywhere, and it's not too late to get the vaccine.
