Only pure, semitranslucent snowy white will do for me. The only other colours or patterns I want seen on the tableware is that of the food that is put on them.
My dishes are fiestaware - so all diff. colors. I couldn't handle (visually) a busy/floral pattern.[/QUOTE/]
I used to have a hodgepodge of dinnerware but after going to a favorite restaurant, junked it all and bought some Fiestaware, which they used. I honestly LOVE it. They are happy dishes
I don't have all colors, though. Right now, they are limited to yellow, turquoise, red, lemongrass and tangerine. I like putting the different colors together for place settings. That said, I also have some plain white porcelain bowls that I use for pasta.
I don't do 'busy.' LOL.
I have been buying and collecting Fiesta for ten years now. They are happy dishes! They are also sturdy and casual.

We usually don’t like plates that are overly ornate and prefer just a subdued type of pattern, however when renting a beach condo this fall, the dinnerware was very sharp looking!
Or was it just that the plates were always filled with great seafood that we cannot normally get when at home❗️
I'm not a fan of garish kitchen plate designs. - I prefer designs that are either just around the edge, or are like a feature corner image on the plate. Otherwise I think they look a bit dated!
I generally like white, and have lots of it for entertaining. It's so easy to use other things to provide color and the white dishes will always coordinate. All my platters and serving pieces are white too.
For my every day dinner plates though I have Royal Doultan 1815. These pieces mix easily with white and create a pretty weeknight dinner table.
THIS is what I like. A minimum of design. We’ve had this china since our wedding (1992) and we’re still delighted by it.
Mikasa "Midnight" brings me back to around your wedding year when I worked in the China and crystal department of Filene's. I remember this pattern well.

Love these! Nice and colorful but not busy. Perfect for a coastal home. I'm redecorating (painting, drapes, art) and I'm lightening everything up from our last locale in the Southwest. I love beautiful "tabletop" and have a couple of sets that I just can't part with but these have really caught my eye.
