Hilarious,
This coming from the same people that want to ban burqas.

Go ahead, keep on blaming the "liberal boogeyman"

In my case...
my dad is 1/2 black, I lived in Korea for 1 month and I grew up South America.
I have enough diversity in my family to not care where I live.... I take diversity to that neighborhood.

I get that Jews are a minority, though, in the sense that they are in the city of Houston. I'm not sure if that makes a difference. It's okay to look for Jewish neighborhoods, but not okay to look for white neighborhoods, because Jews are more of a minority than whites are in Houston.

I was just asking because of another post where a guy was wanting recs on safe, white, conservative neighborhoods where people don't speak other languages, their kids wouldn't have to go to "hispanic" schools, etc. That guy was lambasted, and rightly so. So when I saw this post, I thought, wait a minute, this is exactly the same thing, isn't it? But instead of being lambasted, this poster was given recommendations. The poster didn't ask where the good Jewish schools were. She asked where young Jewish couples live.

Because the two posts were posted so close together in time, it just stuck out like a sore thumb, the difference in the reactions to the two posts that were very similar.
I am a white Jew who has been in the Houston area for 11 years, and I was going to type out a long post about how it is challenging being the only Jew that you know of in your circle of friends here. Or about how it is a challenge for your 10 year old to be questioned about the matzoh he brings to school during Passover because there are no other Jews in his class. Or even for that same son to be told he doesn't believe in G-d because he is Jewish. (Probably because this other kid has never even met anyone Jewish before.) But you know what? I am not going to bother. Because it won't make a damn difference. You just won't get it.

And you know what? I live in Sugar Land, where it is extremely diverse.

Look up Christian Identity on google and that will tell you why he was lambasted.

Note that the Jewish family is NOT looking for a place where only Jews live, but for a neighborhood where they will at least have some of their own people to hang around with.

I've noticed that that's difference
Some people are looking for a place where they can find lots of "their people" to socialize with them.

And then you get other people trolling asking for a place where they will never see anybody that is not part of "their people". As if that place existed in Houston.

Hopefully we are past the diversion started by bpollen... if anyone has additional information, much appreciated.

Thanks.

What people don't realize, and this pertains to lots of different issues. IMO, it's not necessarily when one prefers a certain neighborhood because of the large concentration of a certain culture, race, income, or ethnicity, etc. As it's been stated, people are going to live where they feel they fit, and sometimes that includes race or ethnicity.

However, I think it is seriously concerning when people fail to realize or ignore that there are more factors to a neighborhood besides race or ethnicity, or any specific characteristic for that matter. Few things, especially people, are that one dimensional. More concerning is the idea that one particular factor, in particular race or ethnicity, always determines some other direct, unique outcome, experience, or immutable trait. That's what's scary.

I'm still trying to figure out how to recommend areas since I'm still not sure how I'm supposed to identify a Jew without their saying/displaying something evidential. I don't ask people, so I don't know - there might be lots around me!

OP, do you have any other criteria to narrow down your target area?

This is human nature. If you look at people everywhere in the world, they tend to prefer to live and associate with their own kind. There is nothing inherently wrong about someone wanting to live around other white, conservative Christians, but as someone else said, don't expect to be able to do so in Houston.

As far as Jewish areas in Houston, I don't think there is anywhere that is going to have an overwhelming density of Jewish families like you would find in the northeast. The OP's best bet is to not worry so much about the neighborhood composition of Jewish families; rather find a neighborhood you like that is reasonably close to a Jewish school, synagogue/temple, or Jewish Community Center and then make use of those amenities.

OP, you had the misfortune of posting just after a controversial and ridiculous thread by someone who only wanted to live near white English speakers. I'm sorry the residue of that spilled over here.

The neighborhoods mentioned above in the Meyerland area (surrounding neighborhoods as well) would be a good fit. A temple, a couple of Jewish schools and the JCC anchor the Jewish community there. There's also an amazing bagel place & deli, sometimes hard to come by in Texas. It's a great family neighborhood with great sports leagues, pools and etc. 77096, 77035.

That is helpful and what we'll most likely do. Thanks.
