If OP hires a local realtor, they will likely be familiar with the areas that might suit the OP's need. There are certain realtors that specialize in these areas of town such as Bernstein Realtors Bernstein Realty and Beth Wolff Realtors Beth Wolff Realtors, Real Living > Home to name a few. Almost all of the major firms have Jewish realtors on their staff that can give you local insight.

I've recently toured the whole Fondren SW neighborhoods, and they seem to really be changing. The schools are beyond suck, so private school is a requirement. But with how affordable the housing it, it's easier to budget it.

And the homes are really, really nice.
