I totally agree. Maybe for once they can plan the infrastructure FIRST and not create another traffic headache! I'm optimistic until proven wrong.

I don't know why I did not take that into consideration. I'm not looking forward to the actual widening of Zierdt Road because it will probably be quite a mess, I wish all of it could be done sooner than 2017.

This project has been talked about for a good five years with next to zero progress in that entire timeframe (okay .. they removed trees and moved the fence). The project was supposed to be fast-tracked back in 2012 with a three phase plan established by then City Engineer, Shane Davis. In the two years since he announced that plan, about all that has been done is the minimal stuff I mentioned above.

Under his plan the entire project, which included two new northbound lanes to the east of the existing road and two entirely rebuilt southbound lanes where the existing lanes are today would have been finished in 2016. As it stands now, we'll be lucky to have the two northbound lanes in working order by '16. Then at some point, we'll go back to what we have now as they'll have to close the existing lanes to rebuild the southbound lanes.

The really funny thing is that Mayor Battle and Councilman Culver tried to say that the project hadn't been delayed the last time there was a discussion about diverting road construction money to Memorial Parkway overpasses. Nope, no delay here. Move along now.

Someone told me he is bringing in the designers of Ross Bridge to work on this project. If so, it should be extremely nice. I think its planned to be more than a "strip mall".

Now that is interesting. Not that this is going to happen, but there is plenty of room there for a golf course and resort type feature.

I really hope this is the case. We have enough cheap looking buildings already. It seems every new retail construction is either a strip and/or that pre-fabricated look. I was really disappointed when the city announced the historic Madison renovations then allowed the construction of those cheap looking storefronts. It seems like so much is done with no regard to quality and I think that hurts the area's image.

Agreed! And there are some sections of Hwy 72 in Madison that need to be torn down & start over. Old, crappy metal-looking buildings, etc. I'm thinking of the area on the south side of 72.....across from The Redstone branch. There's the big yellow auto repair place, and old gym of some sort, and various other junky-looking stuff.

I didn't take it that he was going to try to replicate Ross Bridge.....just take some design elements. I don't think this will be anything like that, but who knows.

I believe the developer is Daniel Corporation out of Birmingham. They developed Ross Bridge in Hoover and also developed The Outlet Shops of Grand River in Leeds.
