Thank God that more jobs may come to Huntsville besides BRAC=(I think).

This means that even more growth may come. this also means that ALDOT and whoever need to start with those road projects before it gets to late.

I kind of doubt that will happen. Florida's legislators are WAY more influential than Alabama's (Sen. Shelby notwithstanding). Florida might lose some jobs to Marshall, but it won't be thousands.
United Space Alliance? Is that right? We have United Launch Alliance here in Decatur; is that what they mean? It's not doing shuttle work, though.

I agree with you Southlander.. plus FL has dem senators and Gov Crist has accepted the bailout money for the state.

Some may come to AL but I doubt it will be a huge number. They can't sell their house in FL right now and unless they lose their jobs they aren't going anywhere.

As individual engineers, there's no incentive to wait till the Shuttle retires. If you have a job offer now, and you're able to sell your house, you'd want to move to Huntsville now.

Just about the only thing that will make a difference is, if USA receives a "subcontract" from MDA, so the engineers can continue to work as employees of USA (hence the medical, vacation & retirement benefits continues, etc.).

If I read this article correctly, it sounds like United Space Alliance (not the same as United Space Alliance) is trying to lure NASA employees and contractor personnel to Huntsville to fill the vacant desks that MDA will bring with them when they move to Huntsville. This keeps the Cape's present aerospace workers engaged and current in aerospace work (which is gonna evaporate for those workers as the Shuttle mission winds down) and lets MDA hit the ground running in Huntsville instead of them having to train interns, co-ops, and non-aerospace hires in the ways of government aerospace work. Sounds like a win-win to me. It's not a question of Florida losing jobs to Alabama, because those Florida jobs are gonna go away anyway with the end of the Shuttle mission. Alabama already has the jobs and needs to fill them. And it's in the best interests of our country to fill them with people who have at least a nodding acquaintance with the government aerospace developmental culture.
