Having a house so old made it very cheap to buy (on a gulf access canal)...but insurance rates went through the roof a few years ago. So, I am not currently insured. At all. My anxiety ain't happy .

8pm Update:: A lower pressure from previous means it's strengthening. I can't imagine that.

DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK
------------------------------
At 800 PM AST (0000 UTC), the distinct eye of Hurricane Irma was
located near latitude 17.2 North, longitude 60.5 West. Irma is
moving toward the west near 15 mph (24 km/h). A turn toward the
west-northwest is forecast to begin tonight and continue for the
next couple of days. On the forecast track, the extremely dangerous
core of Irma will move over portions of the northern Leeward Islands
tonight and early Wednesday, move near or over portions of the
northern Virgin Islands Wednesday, and pass near or just north of
Puerto Rico late Wednesday and Wednesday night.

Maximum sustained winds are near 185 mph (295 km/h) with higher
gusts. Irma is an extremely dangerous category 5 hurricane on the
Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some fluctuations in intensity
are likely during the next day or two, but Irma is forecast to
remain a powerful category 4 or 5 hurricane during the next couple
of days.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km) from
the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 175
miles (280 km).

The minimum central pressure estimated from Hurricane Hunter
observations is 916 mb (27.05 inches).

NEXT ADVISORY
-------------
Next complete advisory at 1100 PM AST.

From forecast 27

ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE 926 MB EYE DIAMETER 25 NM MAX SUSTAINED WINDS 160 KT WITH GUSTS TO 195 KT.
.
64 KT....... 50NE 45SE 35SW 50NW.
.50 KT....... 90NE 70SE 50SW 80NW.
.34 KT.......150NE 110SE 100SW 140NW.
.12 FT SEAS..360NE 240SE 240SW 360NW.
WINDS AND SEAS VARY GREATLY IN EACH QUADRANT. RADII IN NAUTICAL MILES ARE THE LARGEST RADII EXPECTED ANYWHERE IN THAT QUADRANT.
REPEAT...CENTER LOCATED NEAR 17.1N 59.8W AT 05/2100Z AT 05/1800Z CENTER WAS LOCATED NEAR 16.9N 59.2W

.
FORECAST VALID 06/0600Z 17.6N 61.8W MAX WIND 155 KT...GUSTS 190 KT.
.64 KT... 50NE 45SE 35SW 50NW.
.50 KT... 90NE 70SE 50SW 80NW.
34 KT...160NE 120SE 100SW 150NW.

Hence from the forecast, they expect Irma has now peaked for at least the trip across the Atlantic.

Behind Jose there is already a possible third Cape Verde Hurricane forming.

The primary tool I use is updated hourly and shows surface winds. This is what I am looking at when I say it appears to me that Thirteen will draw Irma into the Gulf. Since that is the current direction of surface winds.

Thirteen is being held back from entering Mexico owing to a high pressure ridge down the length.

The cold front coming down may not actually be good in my view since it will also prevent Thirteen from moving North. As a consequence Thirteen will sit and spin in the Gulf until it becomes large.

If Irma enters the Gulf, and by that time Thirteen has grown, it doesn't matter if the coast has a cold front protecting it. Fujiwhara Effect (and it is a term I over use too much since it is admittedly one of the few technical terms I know) will over come.

I follow primarily Typhoons since that is where I live and I live upon the sea in my sailboat. So I admit I am overly cautious about moving out. I maintain a crew to head down to Sarawalk the "land below the wind". That is where I would be traveling now if I saw anything close to Irma size headed my way. Where I am now sees about one Typhoon every decade.

This is a great video and example of what not to do in a hurricane. I can't believe they are still driving around town just before it hits especially the guy in the panel truck. The windage on that truck probably means it was knocked over by the wind. Standing in front of big windows is also not really very bright.

So someone posted tornado footage pretending it was Irma?

I am so afraid right now for anyone in pathos this storm...
I don't understand anyone would try to create fear and panic...as a joke...
