Case in point..we have 3 people here at work from Peru..two very very dark and facial features somewhat similiar to Native American indians..the third is whiter then me, lighter hair...so based on what you are saying the *whiter* fellow is decended from people of possibly Spain or Portugal ???

While the *darker* two are actually native to South America, Peru as they decend from the South American indians????
Don't know where AzBear has gone, but I'll step in here. Peru is largely an Indian nation, ruled by a tiny white aristocracy. There is also a small, but influential Japanese community.

A point of trivia is this---the very successful Japanese-Peruvians, naturally, inspired some envy in the other segments of society. During WWII, the "power-brokers" in Peru saw the opportunity to rid themselves of competition, and at the same time "appease" the Indian majority, and many Japanese-Peruvians were rounded up (for "security reasons") and put in internment camps... but guess where? Yes, they were interred in the US--(we're always glad to "help out a neighbor"). Some of these folks returned to Peru after the war..many elected to remain in the US.

South America, as stated before, has a vast variety of ethnicities, much of it entirely non-Hispanic. On the NE "shoulder" of the continent are even many East Indians---in Guyana (Hindus), Surinam (Javanese), and French Guiana. Most of the Caribbean coast has large numbers of English-speaking "Caribbean Blacks", in Nicaragua, Honduras, etc,.(check out the decidedly non-Hispanic sounding towns of Livingston, Guatemala--and Bluefields, Nicaragua)... There's even a small colony of un-repentant American Confederates who fled to Brazil after the civil war. Their descendants still live there, pretty much integrated into Brazilian society, but still celebrating "Robert E. Lee" type festivals on certain days of the year. (Guess they don't want to admit their former culture is "Gone With The Wind")...

that is very true! People think of Miami being a hispanic city and expect to see Mexicans instead whereas they are a minority here.

So, how is this current discussion linked to the African American perception of illegal aliens?

OK, how's this ?---back in June, Ted Hayes (African American homeless advocate) and his group got a permit to assemble near downtown LA to protest illegal immigration. Illegal supporters showed up, and in the confrontation, Hayes and 4 associates were arrested--even though they had the permit. Hayes has also rallied in defense of imprisoned BP agents Ramos and Compeon. I think it's safe to say that Ted Hayes is one African American who is very upset about illegal immigration---and so are quite a number of his supporters.

Are you kidding? White Hispanic people who live in the United States ARE THE LUCKIEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD. Just think about it: They get "white privilege" (e.g. get discriminated against far less than their darker peers) and also the minority privileges (e.g. affirmative action)! Only in America can the government create a program like Affirmative Action to benefit the descendants of slavery....only to give it to others who themselves are the descendants of slave masters. People forget that whereas 300,000 black slaves went to the United States, TEN MILLION went to all of Latin America. The United States is giving AA to the descendants and partial descendants of slave masters simply because they share Spanish language ability and a few Spanish last names with their darker skinned and poorer brethren. The funny thing about Affirmative Action is that one doesn't even have to ask for the "head start", it's just readily given to you whether you want it or not.

not true if anything the people who are discriminating against white hispanics are white americans and YOUR TYPICAL HISPANIC LOOKING PERSON

imo, most black Americans would see white Hispanics as white american because of the perception of not knowing there are white Hispanics or not coming in contact with many or if any at all. the same can be said of black hispanics

D level for him and Master's for her, had 3 children raised in poverty, took no handouts, and made it. all of their kids are in college or have graduated. they own their own house. everyone has a car. we live in a good neighborhood. it can be done legally. i am 100% against amnesty.

Maybe in 2006, sure as heck isn't the case now. No one is hiring.
