Well I had a thread hear earlier based on a lie I told on an application and asking what background checks show. The company I interviewed with 4 times gave me an offer last week and told me background check had to be completed by Friday before I could start. Well they had me start Monday so I assumed the background info came back fine. Then today I get a call from HR (corporate is in another state) saying they couldnt verify some of the information. They said they want a W2 and of course I don't have one. So I told her I would call her back with the info.
I don't know if my manager was told or not yet. But I left work at 2 since I'm only training and the days are shorted until I'm fullly trained. So I thought about coming clean and telling the truth but I figure that may hurt me even more so I'm just going to quit and say its not a good fit. I'm super embarrassed and ashamed. So the bottom line is dont lie.
I got so desperate being out of work..I thought I was bettering my life after a past of being a screw up. But I just made it worse.
I'm too ashamed after lying. And they are just going to fire me anyway. I got word they are extremely strict. I would rather salvage what dignity I have left and quit. I thought about being honest but then I worry if I "admit" it I can get in worse trouble.
I'd look at it this way. You'd potentially be saving them the cost of having to hire and train again. Admitting that you took some creative liberties on the application won't get you in any legal trouble, so that might be the route to go.

I have only been there 1 day and I know for a fact they will fire me. I just posted to show others that its a bad idea to lie. I can't feel sorry for myself since Its only my fault.
Doctoring W2s is a dumb idea. You don't want to be a *********. <---- apparently the term for a person who commits fraud is censored on CD.
I would suggest coming clean. You have already invested a significant amount of time in attaining the job. Backing down would be putting that time to waste.

I have never lied on an application. I know it can get some people places, but with my luck, someone would find out after I was hired, then I'd be embarassed when asked to leave. Just getting caught and the embarassment keeps me from doing that.
And I'm still unemployed.

Just getting caught and the embarassment keeps me from doing that.
