My last 3 bills averaged about 75. Lowest that they have been.

My electricity bill the last couple of months was around $50.00. Even lower a few months ago. During the summer time around $70.00. I was talking to my neighbor the other day and she told me her bill during the Summer season was around $300.00/month. Her condo unit has afternoon sun all day. I told her to plant a tree in front of her unit to block the sunshine. I can tell she is improving the landscaping around her unit, perhaps to help lower her electricity bill.

It helps to be surrounded by trees/shrubs..... drought tolerant of course!! My home is surrounded by landscaping and mature trees, it truly helps cool down the area.

Yes it will but even an old house can be made efficient by doing a few things to it. Add insulation, better windows, solar screens, properly sized air conditioner makes a big difference.

That's the hidden cost of living in Vegas. Since you won't be at home during the daytime, you won't be affected THAT much, but I guarantee you'll want to turn that AC on at night and NVenergy are going to take all they can.

Even though I'm not home during the day, for my small 2 bedroom apartment, my AC bill is still at least $150 a month during the summer, and the neighbor's was like 300. When I ran a business with a 3,000 ft square location, and had to run the AC all day, the power bill was like $1,500 a month. So it definitely adds up.

Do you have to Opt-in with the time of use? Or just lower all your power consumption during 1-7pm?

Be sure you monitor it, though. They told us it would be at least a month before we were enrolled after we signed up. It actually happened in 1 day, and we were unaware and didn't change our cooling habits. Expensive lesson.

For three more months you are fine. Tiered rates aren't in effect until June.

Some simple tips, but ones that do work. If you aren't home simply unplug things you are not using. It actually does save money and has been proven. Even though the device/appliance may be off, plugged in still means it is drawing energy. I know it is a burden for some, but if you want to save a few bucks it is worth it believe me.
