I wouldn't live in 89156 -- too close to both Lake Mead Blvd. and Nellis AFB. Go as far east as you can afford, and between Vegas Valley and Bonanza if you can swing it.

That's the sweet spot for this particular area. And, yes, you can find a nice house in a nice neighborhood for $140. But those are becoming very hard to find. I wouldn't wait a year. In fact, if I were still in "buy" mode, I'd be putting in multiple offers each day -- like I did a couple years ago.

He's a sports better and, AFAIK, there are no legal sports books in Arizona.

All I want to do is live a simple life without any stress(just retired from teaching 35 yrs of stress) hanging out in the sports books, traveling at least 6 times a year (conveniently with McCarran Airport close by is a plus). I know it's hot there but I'm use to it with the Dallas humidity that we have. Also, with the crime I plan to live in a fairly safe place unlike North or NE Vegas etc. Somebody please let me know why I shouldn't move out there. I feel right now that living in Texas has nothing to offer me.
If you are going to move here, do it right and move to Summerlin or Green Valley area. Green Valley is slightly better because you are closer to LA. Summerlin has the best off strip casino (Red Rock), and is a great area, and has more of the Vegas feel to it. Do not touch the Northern part of the city.

Before you make the move, I would take a look at LA or Orange County, because the weather is unreal. You can easily afford decent condo there, and you have access to the beaches.

And now, the superior move is to just live in Vegas from October to April, when the weather is great. And stay in Texas from May to September to be around more normal people. See, the problem with Vegas is that the people here are really strange. I mean really, really, really strange. Still you will have fun for a good period of time here. We have some great restaurants, the best "cheesy" entertainment in the county, and you can do anything 24/7. Good luck man.

You have to take any Las Vegan's thoughts with a grain of salt in August. Our brains have been fried by three months of blazing heat, our butts have been burned by our car seats one too many times. And we are grouchy.

Get back to us in October, we're nicer, then.

It seems fine to me since you can tolerate the heat. That was the only thing I thought of so I'd say you're fine living there.
