Default Damn this economy can wreak havoc...

Got a really tough one going down on the block. One older couple is short selling and their life is disintegrating and it becomes hard to know how to deal with it.

Their both around 80. They overbought at the height of the bubble and ended up having to short sell. She is OK and going strong - but he is well into dementia and does not have the capacity to deal with it. So we have a basically empty house with this poor old man and his dog living their without electricity or really any services.

The family is keeping him supplied and fed but it has to come to an end within days. We are checking on the house periodically and the grandkid hits it once a day at least.

She can't help him as he has gotten out of control and she can't deal with it.

They are trying to find him a suitable institution but it will be hard...and he will have to part with the dog...which will likely throw him over the edge.

Damn things can go south when you get old...

You haven't gotten on the tap water/bottled water debates/forums? 70% of bottled water is untested!

In cutting-edge San Francisco, they're all but banning bottled water. Go into a 5-star restaurant there, and they'll serve you tap water!

I have drank tap water every day, every year (16 years) since I've lived here, and cook with it!

I grew up on tap water up until the age of 19(the time I joined the Air Force). Bottled water always tasted funny to me. It took a little while but now I actually like bottled water more. Even weirder is my wife grew up on underground well water up until when she moved to Vegas. She told me that both bottled and tap water tasted funny to her. She was forced to like one or the other.

Reverse osmosis removes the toxic fluoride that is added to the water supply. That is why I go to the Glacier water machines.

Does the Glacier water really remove the fluoride? What about spring water? I find that tastes the best.

I wonder about that. We have an under sink RO system, but I wonder if it is worth the cost. Filter replacement costs is around $200 per year. We think that the water tastes better but i always have second thoughts about if it is the worth the cost. Of course, DW thinks it is so I guess I am stuck.
