I am in LA and it is lovely. I see why people pay so much.

I don't know if I'm right about genes being over 50%.-curiousgeorge5

I know someone who still has high cholesterol despite watching what she eats. I don't recall if she takes medicine for it. I can eat horribly and not get high cholesterol.

Thanks for the rep, whoever gave it.

I think you're pretty much right on, curiousgeorge5. I have always heard that genes play a big part - it's proven and it's well-known. They have you fill out those medical history forms at the doctor's office - and notice, they ask you about your medical history, right?
When someone suffers from high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and some other things, it's not genetic, it's the same recipes being handed down from generation to generation. Less than 5% of the population in the entire world has a genetic trait that they hand down. People just like to blame their bad habits on something, makes them feel better. And a doctor telling you it's genetic, they make more money that way prescribing pills, procedures and surgery.
They can't make money on healthy people. Think about that one for awhile.

California has many lovely areas. You should see it in spring time. I like the green of the mountains there, versus the dry brown of the mountains here. I lived there for a long time in southern California, Riverside county area. I also spent some time in northern California long ago.
I used to want to move back, but now that my Mom is gone from this world, no reason to go back there. But still have a few family members there, dwindling down over time.

I went to Newport Beach. We drove a round a little bit. There's so much more there than here.

I think you might have you % underestimated. Genes on chromosomes are the building blocks of life.

I have clearly made the wrong life choices. How do people make enough money to afford one of these houses?

I would deal with the overcrowding and regulations to have this close at hand.

Not so bad south of Newport Beach. Used to sail out of there. Lived north a ways though a 15 minuie bike ride to Seal Beach.

EA - if you get down a bit more south there are a couple of coves with private beaches that are even nicer. And further south the jewel of them all in La Jolla.

I actually prefer Catalina though it is impractical to live there. We did it by boat for many years. Few places on earth nicer than Catalina and the beaches face in the right direction.

I found a house right on the peninsula a few blocks from that pier for 2300 a month. That's a lot of money, but it's cheap for the beach. It is small so it wouldn't be practical with the kids, but when they move out, lol
