Get a part time job and prove yourself, then you will get full time. All area managers started at the bottom somewhere. Any work is better than no work.

Have faith in your abilities, grasshopper!

I agree with 99% of the posts here! I think the dread of thinking you are "stuck" somewhere would be worse than the feeling of going back. But, sometimes that feeling of going back is what propels you forward.

And working at a Vons at 20 yrs old is not a bad start. You will have an income, maybe make some connections that become valuable and then you can decide which path to take. If furthering your education is important, you can do that then.

Have you decided when? Are you driving alone?

Driving across the southern states on I-10 sounds a lot better then driving up the east coast on I-95, which I have done many times.
MapQuest says if you take I-10 to just beyond Mobile, and work your way up to I-40 at Amarillo it is 126 miles closer and an hour less drive time. IMHO I think it's a less boring drive too. Purdy in New Mexico and Arizona.

My father is an ex trucker. Back in the late 1990s he owned his own truck and his usual run was from Orlando to Los Angeles. He suggested I-10 because he told me the speed limit in west Texas is 80 MPH on I-10 and has a lot less traffic. Back when trucks were still allowed to pass through Hoover Dam he would take route 93 right into Vegas (his last stop before LA)

I'm merely copying his old trucker's route

I was just thinking what a welcome contrast this thread is to some of the other "I want to move to Vegas without working and I want free housing when I get there...is it possible to get Section 8 and welfare from Nevada before I even move?. Thanks!" types of posts!

Davie is definitely a go getter and will make it here on his own. I am positive of it. I admire his ambition. Unfortunately, I lost my ambition years ago.

That's too bad about your ambition, you are awfully young for that. I would say that maybe some of Davie's could rub off on you but as I learned a while back, the healthy being doesn't make the unhealthy being healthy...the opposite is true.

I am having even more second thoughts about moving. My parents told me I need to save more money and they are completely convinced Im going to break down in the middle of nowhere in Texas and not be able to call anybody for help, they think I should wait it out another year, and with the exception of people on the forum, everybody I know in the offline world agrees that I should "stick with what I know"

In spite of having two interviews waiting for me when I arrive, it wont 100% guarantee I'll get one of those jobs. My parents are right. I think Im just going to stay in Florida for another year and wait it out
