My inside thermostats are reading 75 degrees and the curtains on the windows are blowing softly....every once in a while I hear the birds chirp and the air smells fresh and clean..

I'm having my cup of afternoon joe with a slice of banana bread in the family room waiting for Judge Judy to go on...

Aaaaahhhhhhh...simple pleasures are the best

My house is funny, downstairs stays a constant 75 while upstairs ranges from 69 in the morning up to 80 (when the AC kicks on) in the afternoon up until around 6pm. Otherwise we are fine. Biggest problem I have is with my wife who wants a bright house and pulls all the blinds open. She doesn't believe me when I tell her that all she is doing is heating up the house and jacking up our electric bill. She never does until I show her our first 300+ bill then its save money time.

It's 78 outside and 78 inside in my office with a big heat generator (workstation class PC) and a west facing 40 square foot window (covered with a solar screen). Room is pleasant with ceiling fan on lowest speed.

Turned mine on last night. I had all the windows open upstairs with fans going and it was still 80 degrees inside. I couldn't sleep, so I powered it on.

Everybody should give it a test run before it really gets hot.

We live in Queens (suburb of NYC) and have had to use the A/C a couple of times already. Summer electric bills for a three bedroom APARTMENT with 3 window A/C's can hit $350-$400. That's why we now spend the summers in Las Vegas and let someone else pay the electric bill!!!! At least we get to enjoy the heat!!

Not yet, I have a corner ground floor unit which does not get hit by the mid afternoon sun, so far it is still off. Property is surrounded by trees and it helps with the shade. Sometime around later part of May I will turn the AC on. My friend is a bit anal so he might turn it on soon.

I'm with the hot blooded people. We just turned it on. It's not on much but I like it better in the 70's inside than the 80's

There's been times I haven't put mine on until it hits 95-100, dependent on the humidity level, of course.

And even during the summer, I never have it set less than 80. Set at 72, I'd need to wear a coat.

An overlooked concern when sharing a house/apt with anyone is shared comfort level. I've always rented a room out in my house, and me and my tenant share the same comfort level. If we didn't, he'd have to find somewhere else to live.

When a friend of mine visits me from Texas, to the hotel she goes, won't have her sharing my space, as it's never warm enough in winter or cold enough in summer. I refuse to sweat or shiver the time she visits me.

Any number of penny-pinching seniors, to the great shock of others, do not even turn them on in summer. My elderly neighbor two doors up, never turns hers on in summer, and never turns the heater on in winter, just to save money. Misplaced priorities in this case, as she drives a Cadillac. Even in Phoenix when I lived there, I had an elderly neighbor totally dependent on fans, no A/C.

And I've never had A/C in my cars the entire 17 years I've lived in both Phoenix and Las Vegas. But I work the night shift, cool enough by 10pm, cool enough at 6am.
