I have it on since the end of Feb

It is extremely windy with blowing dust today.
If not the sun came out, I could easily assume that a hurricane was approaching to Vegas.

The requirements for a swamp cooler and refrigeration AC are just about direct oppposite. In swamp cooler you want to change over the air in the house very quickly...so you want big ducts and large openings to the outside. Some swamp cooler homes are built with special vents to allow large air flow as well as really big ducting from the cooler to the central point in the home.

Refrigeration AC is just the opposite. You want only minimum interchange with the external environment...and the air flow and duct work is far smaller.

My mothers place in southern AZ had both...and she would stay 80% of the summer with swamp cooler only. Her system was quite automated. Through a switch and it changed over. Had to be serviced three times a year.

Nice thing about the new single inlet units, they require far less maintenance and they have a special auto drain feature to keep the mineral buildup down.

All the coolers I service, get thoroughly cleaned in the spring with new pump, float, belt and pads.
With this proper care, I usually never have to go back to a house until shutdown in the fall.

I ran a seperate larger duct system for my cooler and also did a couple other houses in our neighborhood the same way.
Works great!

How much is the average electric bill? I'm moving into an e-smart house, hoping that all the energy efficiency turns into low electric bill.

sq footage approx 1800
