HOBO. I do not like what London has become and i knew London before it became this way. I'm sdorry it doesn't gel with you but the truth is that London is not a place to be anymore. If that is me being lopsided then i'm lopsided. I live here half the year and i know what it's like here. If you think London is so cool, move back.
We might - who knows. DH is American and has lived all over the States, but he LOVES London too and misses it. We may move back. People are just as negative about where we live now as you are about London, so we really can't win wherever we are.
I do think your view is lopsided. Try moving somewhere half decent in London and then report back in a year or two.
It's wierd but London is one of those places that seems so much better when you aren't there. I lived in Spain for a while and missed London very much. I moved back to London and couldn't really undwerstand what i had missed. How long have you been in the USA HOBO?
Well we are still in Chicago but are moving back there in July. We've lived in Dallas and Houston and liked them both, for different reasons. I had a very wide circle of friends in Houston mainly because there were a bunch of expats down there, but I also have family there. Also I loved the proximity of Houston to San Antonio as that is one of my favourite cities. The Texans are a very friendly bunch. We visited a few weeks ago to do some house hunting and one of the neighbourhoods that we liked had quite a few people out in their yards, nearly all of them stopped and waved at us. It was lovely. It is funny though how people perceive Texans. In Illinois they have almost disdain to Texas and Texans. I haven't got to the bottom of it but it is probably because Texas prides itself on being bigger and better and who am I to argue. Also they have car stickers that say Proud To Be Texan and something like 'I may not have been born in Texas but I got here as quick as I could' - something like that anyway.
I love the old fashioned feel of Texas. It feels like they still put home values first. As you said very friendly and down to earth. HOBO was looking down her nose at Houston. I love Houston. I liked Florida but i thought it was becoming too commercialised. Ca is overated and too far from anything. I am so glad that someone else on here is moving to somewhere because they like it and not because it seems to be a cool place to be.

We've been living here for coming up on 6 years. I like the US, but hate the weather here. Miserably hot or miserably cold. I like spring and autumn.
I visited London about 6 months ago. Seemed about the same as usual to me.
Haven't lived in Chigwell - but think it's out in Essex somewhere near Hainault? Does that even count as London? Maybe it counts as 'greater London', but it's MILES away from central London. How long does it take to get into London on the tube? 40 minutes or so?
Don't think you count as a Londoner. More like an Essex lad.
Maybe it's because i was brought up in the east end of London but i'm not into fancy over the top showy places. I like down to earth, shoot from the hip, not snobby places and people.
No they aren't all mean.
Big cities do have a reputation for being 'mean' though. I think it's because people are in more of a hurry. Have you been to NYC?
London is like that. Not terribly laid back and easy going, but not 'mean' either. Just a big city!
Well thank you, no I have never been to NYC. I dont really like big cities, from my name you can tell I like the country. I like it where everyone knows your name and they all smile when you come in a store and say Hi. I think it would be fun to go to NYC or even London! I would like that a lot. Maybe not live there but to visit def.! Y'all got me scared by this tread. Is it really that bad in London? I dont believe it, but i would have to see for myself.
