Go spend some time living in NYC or the not so good parts of DC or Philadelphia and then compare London to those 'like for like' cities.

That is what a city IS. There are people who can afford it and live in beautiful areas with all that the city has to offer close by. Those people LOVE the city! Even some people with smaller budgets are willig to live in tiny places in order to be in a good area and enjoy everything. Then there are the people who can't afford it. Are forced to move to the undesirable areas and do nothing but moan and moan about how dreadful things are.

I see it where we live now (Philadelphia, USA). Center City Philadelphia is gorgeous, but you need to be able to afford $600,000 plus to buy a place there. In the best areas it's more like $1,000,000 plus. This is cheap by big city standards. People who can't afford it live in the surrounding parts of the city which are awful and they do nothing but say how awful Philly is. This doesn't surprise me at all. Again the solution would be to move to a suburb somewhere cheap, but no, people love to complain and talk cr*p about places.

It's a good thing you moved to somewhere you like. Good for you. At least you're not just whining whilst doing nothing about it, BUT you are not comparing like to like, and that doesn't give a fair comparison.
Ones location is situated on the top right of every post from an individual who chooses to disclose this unassuming info ..

It goes without saying that there is always something to whine about Until you see the other side of the fence. I can say something about downtown LA all day long BUT compared to what i was used to before?? It is trivial and petty, i enjoy life far too much to whinge about life here in LA its unreal!!

Americans love to complain about their gas prices all the time, (bless them). And then there goes some american tourists in london who are shocked and swear never to complain about fuel prices ever again. Remember when london had fuel shortages and people were queing for miles to get into the forecourt for gas??

And my findings about oppurtunity and better life for non brits is very sound indeed. America pay those who have the qualifications and the desire to work hard and it does not care for your race or creed!! just as long as you are legal, thats why so many uk foreign health workers have jumped ships

A Brit told me here that he couldn't stand America or Americans (quite common here) I asked him what part of America he had been to? He said he had never been to America and my wife was the first American he had actually met. He said his views came from watching American tv shows. Americans are not generally liked by Brits. They may say they like you to your face but behind your back, many Brits have contempt for America and Americans. They think they are too loud, too arrogant and stupid. Probably a lot of jelousy there, but don't kid yourself that the general Brit loves Americans. When i'm in the States the reverse is true. I have never had any American treat me with anything but respect and kindness.

I just had to laugh. ... Agreed with your points 100%. +reps

Graciejj - you are comparing many years living in the UK to two in the US. I have lived in the US off and on for 15 years. I can see the pros and cons of both places. No doubt about it, London isn't the cleanest city around. I don't particularly like London but it isn't the hovel that some posters are making it out to be. Take a look around Times Square in NYC - its dirty. I used to live in San Francisco which was a fab city when you could get around the number of homeless people on the streets there. The UK knows it has problems. The US will never admit to any.

I have a friend in college that said when she was in Florida, it was raining heavily and two people stopped and gave them umbrellas for free.

London IS a hovel. I'm sorry to dissapoint you. I was in Kensington last week-- it was filthy. Cig butts everywhere. It is now illegal to smoke in a public place but there is hardly anywhere to put your ciggarette stubs out. The pavement is becoming one big ashtray.

If it's raining in London you never get an umbrella for free. You just get splashed by the cars driving fast through a big puddle to soak you.

I am talking about oppurtunity here, if you are homeless or in the pitts of society here in the US (Land of oppurtunity) then i think you have not chosen wisely, anyone and everyone can be a somebody.

Quite frankly i dont know what your rabbitting about. As i have already explained, LA has its problems and so do places like Vegas NV, Pittsburgh PA, Cleveland OH, Houston TX , Virgina beach VA? all of which i have visited. But nothing to that compared to london, believe..

Fine i been here over two years but then i have half brothers and sisters who are born and lived here (US) all their lives that have come and lived with me in london who have not only come to the same conclusion as so many others like me but swear by it and to never return in that pitthole they call london.
