The area by the train station in Ronkonkoma is where you get all the negative publicity. Whatever bars have opened there have been problems, usually fronts for drug dealing and a couple of bikers end up shooting each other. train stations attract transients.

The area of Ronkonkoma between the LIE and Motor Parkway, Lake Hills, is as nice as any area in Sachem SD, and better yet, it's in Connetquot School District, so it's actually superior.

Would you give more info on Sachem, please?

What kind of info? It's a large school district with slightly above average stats for Long Island.

Thank you.

John910's post to Crookhaven suggest he knew something more about the district. I was calling him on it.

Every time I've used Great Schools ratings as a gauge comparing Long Island Schools to some other area, they are summarily dismissed, I guess it depends on what any particular persons agenda is.

Stats based on SAT, regents scores, graduation rates, and attending college in general show Connetquot on a higher level than Sachem.

For instance, from what I just googled, Connetquot students planning to attend 4 year college: 58%. Sachem, 48% for the better high school.

This is the website I tend to give more credence than great schools:

http://www.psk12.com/rating/USindivp...year_2006.html

Here, Sachem (North I assume) general rank (2006 numbers) 131.5, Sachem East 129.3, Connetquot 164.3

As a reference, Cold Spring Harbor 238, Wyandanch 13.7, Bellport 90.6, , Rocky Point 123.2,

Whats with your obsession with North vs East?

Take the elem schools that feed Seneca and Samoset and those are your North schools.

Take the elem schools that feed Sequoya and Sagamore and those are your East schools.

Lived in both districts. Connetquot gets for special ed.
Sachem is bigger and with my son out of special ed and in elem school now I cant complain.

Connetquot taxes are definately higher and suffers from the Ronk end of the district bringing down the Oakdale Bohemia, little bit of W. Sayville and little bit of Sayville side.
