I had given legal and public relations as examples of, but not limiting it to those two areas. Those which you've mentioned would be in there are well.

I don't know I think I read some were that Valley Stream is considering merging it's school districts. That still helps, less school districts we need, but still a long way to go

if certain school districts merge that might give people a reasons to want to stay on long island because they share resources and maybe lower their taxes in a way

I heard that something like 80% of the Sachem school budget goes to pay pensions. That is a real problem.

Newsday's front headline today reports 19 of NY's 20 school superintendent top pension recipients are from LI, some reaching more than $300,000 per year. They have them listed by their monthly payments they are receiving. The former Commack superintendent was the top retiree, receiving $27,154 per month. This explains part of the reason why large percentages of the budgets are going to satisfy these commitments.

exactly right. I bet if someone took the time to see what % of every school districts' budget goes to pay pensions, the #'s would be shocking, and disturbing.

Page 21-22 gives you a good idea as to what is being paid toward pensions and benefits.

It would be a good idea to consolidate and it would help put an end to crime ridden ignorant communities from developing.

Unfortunately it means things will have to socialize more OR Long Island will have to promote tourism industry as the newly educated folk learn that the wealthier locations were propped up at their expense.

If we're all smart, who do you call for house service or to cut your lawn or pump your gas?

That is the main issue, but it sounds ridiculous when you admit it that's why no one ever admits it.

To consolidate, it will give us more questions to answer like how to make Long Island economically viable once our poor neighborhoods stop filling the low wage service sector for HHA Yard Work etc.

So consolidation would be good in the long run, and great in the humanitarian aspect but fundamentally the way Long Island functions might have to see change after that.

And some ppl dont like change.
