Classic answer. Firstly the reality is that no dog can be fully trusted especially around something smaller than themselves such as a child. Pit Bulls are not necessarily more aggressive. They have one major defect...once they do latch on with their teeth. They blank out and become flesh ripping machines...The truth is that some dogs are more responsive to commands and others are more basic meat eaters...Look at the tooth structure of any dog. Their mouths are designed to tear and rip flesh apart.
Anyway - the difference as I mention between these dogs and some others is that they lose what little brains they have once they taste blood.
Pit Bull defenders, especially after stories like this, are absolute nuts and clueless. Facts mean nothing to them.
It's a dog for thugs, low rent trailer trash and men who are short or short in the pants.

You are the nut who is trashing an entire type of dog based on a tiny minority of dogs within that type of dog who have attacked and maimed or killed. What a stretch. And then you go further and profess to know what makes all pit bull owners tick: why they own the dogs, what types of people they are, how tall or short they are, etc.

In Toronto Pit Bulls are band. People who have them can keep them till they die out. If they take their dog into public it must be muzzled. Pit Bulls were specifically bred to fight and kill. Those who own such a dog are dumb and trashy to say the least. Once a one of these freaks hook their teeth into something it is impossible to get them to let go...People have wacked them on the head full force with a bad and they still cling...as far as I am concerned....people and especially children come first....not damned dogs.
I would be happy to dump a million Pit Bulls into the ocean if it could save one child from physical mutilation or worse...They are a garbage dog. They were created by vicious barbaric breeders.

Then try to have the breed banned then. Until that time happens there will be thousands of Long Island families enjoying their pit bulls.

You also have to factor in the number of pit bulls in existence, which is large. So, any breed of dog with a disproportionate amount of numbers will likely be involved in more 'incidents' simply due to the number of dogs walking around.

This stat is beyond meaningless. 85% of shelter dogs and strays are pits or pit mixes so "registered" dogs is a useless stat. Based on the sterotype and raw numbers, you'd expect to read about a pit attack daily. Not happening. Attacks come from the ones treated and raised badly, period. Just like all dogs. Pits aren't born bad. Only humans seem to be born instinctively bad.

Correct. I have done shelter work where they list the dog as a terrier mix. The fact is almost 1 million pit bulls are euthanized yearly in shelters. Old dogs to puppies that are killed by ignorance and fear. Go into the shelters and see how many of these dogs are there. They are thrown away like garbage. I say hold the owners responsible. In fact not just pit bulls. Your dog injures someone because of your negligence then you should face criminal charges.

We have to define what is considered a Pit bull. Also, out of all the dog bite statistics, which dogs are being labeled as being pit bulls. Unfortunately, the label 'pit bull' is too often used as a blanket term to describe any dog that has a broad head and wide jaw. If we go by just American Pit bull Terriers, then the numbers are low.
