I've been looking for a specific style house for a year now (u/c ranch) in a nice same demographics neighborhood, but a whole 2 showed up and we were not quick enough to get it.
I see many other parts of the country that have much larger supply for these houses. I look at texas, AZ, etc. and there is nothing BUT those that I like.
I really dont like what LI has to offer in general in terms of housing, but that's not to say I dont like every house here. Just that the houses that I like here are not for sale.
The problem with ranches is that they don't make economical sense for the builder unless you have a large property. Why have a single story house on a 1/4 acre or less when you can double the square footage (or even more) by having 2 or more stories with a colonial, etc?
Look into buying your own plot of land an getting someone to build the house. It can be a nightmare if you don't do your due diligence but if you are only looking for ranches, you might as well get one custom built.

I'm seeing them all over literally most other states. i just wonder why here and in NJ the housing isnt quite there.
One of the Sunday morning news shows plotted out the best place for a young person to live in considering climate change, employment etc. It turns out Madison Wisconsin is #1 on the list. Check it out, you never know!
