I was on the LIE yesterday going from my job in Farmingdale to Hauppauge to see a doctor who is right on the service Rd. Anyway I see they are getting ready to pave that section of the LIE, It's about time. Thankfully I only have to take the LIE maybe 2-3 times a year.
Lucky you. I was on it today and saw where they started repaving . I was going from Syosset to HAUPPAUGE. All was well until rocks from the construction started pelting my SUV windshield . We just can't win.
Whatever the gov't does to repair potholes does not work. Every year we go thru the same damn routine. Dangerous roads, everyone dodging damage to their vehicles throughout the entire winter, they do an elementary patch up job in the spring, and by next Nov we'll be back to trying to avoid craters.
There's plenty of cold weather states without this issue. Because they correctly pave their roads.
Today on the Southern state west bound (forget by which exit) lots of those spot lights on the side by the grass. Looks they are going to be paving that too. West bound from 20-17 was paved but not on the east bound side.
Monday’s score: 4 flat tires on LIE. Not too bad! Exits 60-50
All within my 20 minute commute.
I'm starting to see flats on sunrise, SS and NSP as well.
You must be in an SUV. The LIE commute is risky. There is no way to avoid all of the potholes. You WILL hit one or two on that commute. I know I do. I try to avoid them but it's impossible.

No SUV here. However, I did need a new set of tires this weekend. I hit one yesterday real good!
Yesterday, not too bad. Only 3 on the side of the road with flats (Exits 60-50).

Hold on. Let me get this straight..... You needed a new set of tires and you STILL take the same route in a car? You are indeed brave. Some of these potholes will not only destroy your tire but crack the rim and or blow out the struts.
They are unavoidable on the LIE and if you switch lanes pray .

Front 2 tires were shot (Gee, I wonder why). Decided to replace all four. As far a route, I live a few blocks from the LIE. My office is directly off the LIE. I tried Sunrise. However, it took DOUBLE time time.
Yes, very dangerous. I can’t tell you how many cars destroyed their entire front end.
But hey, (just like bagels) “Long Island has some of the best auto repair shops!” LOL
