Just saw your post 4 years later and was also trying to remember. To the best of my recollection, the bar was around from say 1968 (when I first went there) to maybe 1971 or 1972; just after that it became Sergeant Pepper's. It was a small bar in what I think was a house on the right side of Cedar Swamp Road (Route 107) just at the intersection of Glen Head Road and a short distance from Glen Cove Road, which headed North to Sea Cliff Avenue and then Glen Cove. As I remember it did not have food or live entertainment and there may have been some pinball or game machines (Space Invaders/PacMan) and some booths. I don't remember an upstairs but just a few yards up Glen Head Road was College Barn; then as you approached the Railroad tracks was Wayside Inn (circa 1969-1971) and further up the road across the tracks(Glenwood Landing Road) was Wooden Ships (later in time, maybe 1976?). I believe the Mug may have been on the Glen Head - Old Brookville border.
Coming from some place off Long Island, I find Long Islanders can be stereotyped by four things that I never heard of before. I haven't lived *everywhere* so maybe other places fit the stereotype but not from what I have ever known.
1) Your home may be worth 10 times what a similar house elsewhere is worth but you only pay 5-8 times the taxes on it ...and complain incessantly about it.
2) You buy a house primarily based on how good the school district is considered but complain incessantly about how much the school taxes are.
3) You make nearly twice the median income (if not more...much more) of people from nearly anywhere else but complain incessantly about paying taxes that allow others to do likewise.
4) Those that complain only complain...they never talk about what they did to change (or try to change) what they do not like.

I'd like to qualify #4 by saying there have been a few people posting on C-D.com lately about things they've done (ie. attend Smithtown Planning or Zoning mtgs.). While I may not share their opinion or agree with how they proceeded, I applaud their involvement and passion for taking action. I hope more people will someday do likewise (especially if they're on "my side" of the issue! LOL!).
You know you're from Long Island......when you go and vote yes for every school budget! ..and the school district still cuts programs! <<<Only LI sheep do this!
You know you're from LI when you have to read posts from disgruntled soon-to-be former LIers looking for any reason to justify their departure.
Best of luck on your move down south.
