Was it Korvette's?
We used to buy little turtles at Kresge's (Kreske's?)
...and guppies at Ed's!
Does anyone remember the huge cage full of birds at the Walt Whitman Mall?
wow Ed's tropical aquarium, bought my first Aquarium there in 1980 and filled it with neon tetras and zebrafish. Thanks for a great memory.
Been off of the island now for about 6 years, in that little time so much has changed. Bittersweet when we go back, but can't wait to get out of the traffic.
No ansectors from Brooklyn or anywhere in NYC, well maybe at some point but long ago. Half of family has been in Long Island for at least 100 years. Shouldn't parents from Long Island make more sense as being from Long Island than Brooklyn?
Why should it? Many of our parents moved here from a NYC borough or were born in a NYC borough, I was born in NYC, my hubby on LI. Many of my friends are not LI born. Give it another generation before adding 'parents from LI' -- then again with the influx of immigrants, we might have to add parents from (insert foreign country here.)

Frankly, no one wants to claim Long Island when they can claim Brooklyn! Our Great Grandfather settled in the Bronx, then moved to Brooklyn and never left. The rest of the family spread out like flies all over LI. Great stories!

Bronx, Brooklyn, Bronx then LI for some family.
Bronx, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens for other family.
Brooklyn was very brief, but I still hear the stories about going to Ebbets field and how the Bums moved west.
So anscentry many generations back in Long Island isn't that common? Any posters here? Or are your families NYC then LI?
Many generations back, when you said "Long Island", that meant Kings County, Queens County (then included what is now Nassau County) and Suffolk County.
