Let's see - a clueless 30-year-old thinks she'll fit in better in a place that is a lot more cut-throat than she's used to. She's never lived there, only visited a couple of times, but that's her belief. I'm just curious to find out what she's basing it on.

They either have money saved over or they don't move to L.A. for very long. Or they get waitressing jobs and work 80 hours a week just to be able to afford their share of the rent payment while living with not one but multiple roommates. In other words, this:

I did talk to the person for a year before actually meeting them and we met in a public place. I know the dangerous of meeting someone in person from online. This is my first and only time doing this I don't make it a habit. In fact I'll never do it again this was a one time thing.

Totally understood that this isn't what you're trying to do right now, and I'm not saying it's right, but it could very well be going through your parents' heads.

I did it many years ago. Had money saved up, and as soon as I got there I was looking for a job and an apartment. Nobody lands a job in their career field that fast though, so you'll need to be willing to take jobs that may not pay much.

That's why I mentioned I would have money saved and yes I did assume that I would maybe have to work a regular low paying job. I didn't think I would easily just get a job in the career field I want to work in.

You really don't get how this whole "big picture conversation" thing works, do you? I wasn't planning a discussion of online dating. My point was that it's likely that, if your parents know that you went to L.A. to meet in person someone that you'd met online, they are likely going to be apprehensive about you going anywhere by yourself because most parents believe online dating to be unsafe (even still). Once again, I'm not saying they are right or wrong - just illustrating what could be their state of mind.

I have moved across state lines five times in the last six years and each time I had an apartment picked out beforehand (recon trips, if you can afford them, are very valuable). Jobs are a little harder to speak on - I moved either for work or school and that part was already figured out. When I move next, I plan on having a job offer at hand, but I'm a little bit more marketable than OP (which is exactly why I'm saying she needs to make herself more marketable, as well).

I don't think you got that point across very well.

And, again - how much money are you planning on moving with? I am not asking because I am nosy - I just want to make sure your expectations are appropriate.

Why do you keep saying I'm clueless? I guess the fact that I've said several times that I'm not going to just up and move to LA means nothing.
